I guess in a couple of years, though, if my rechargeable battery dies on my 360 controller and my battery dies on my PS3 controller, I'll be much less concerned about spending $12 on a new 360 Microsoft-branded battery than spending $50 on a whole new PS3 controller.

Don't you just return it to Sony or something like that?

negative on both counts, you can open the controller and remove the battery yourself. there are instructions in the manual for this.

Where do you buy a new battery?

anywhere that sells it 🙂, saw one from some honk kong site that was 8 bucks. its just a lithium ion battery, like a cell phone battery. theyll probably come out next year.

Why would you do it yourself when Sony said they'd replace them for free?

I really didnt like the play and charge kits, they seemed very overpriced plus USB charging is pretty kludgey for controllers IMO.

Microsoft likes to overcharge people for add-ons for their system rather than just include it with the system. Honestly, is it so hard for people to make controllers rechargeable right away? It seems like neither Nintendo or Microsoft really care that much.

I've always thought the 360 fanboys sounded stupid for criticizing Sony over a cable, but your post is right up there. A pair of NiMh AA cells costs $3. Oh yeah, how do you like the rumble in that SixAxis? 😉 Sony saved some money by leaving out the rumble, and they spent a little more on providing a battery. Meh.

So what's the deal with the background of the main menu changing colors? I've seen it all red with a red ribbon, I've seen it with a very small amount of red at the bottom with the rest of the screen black and a red ribbon, then I've seen it all black with a white/gray ribbon. What's the deal? I'm thinking that it's got something to do with the time of day, but I don't know. I know the PSP had an option to change this to lots of different colors, but I don't see that option here.

It changes depending on the current month and time of day.
