I know the defenses built on them can take down long range missle threats, and I also know that some of the missiles carried by navy aircraft are capable of hitting incoming targets, so is it possible to set up a screen against NK nuclear missile attack using carrier-based aircraft?

carrier battle groups can't do anything about ballistic missiles, the ballistic part means they go really high into near outer space
i really don't think we have anything to worry about directly, they will use them on south korea before trying to get one here to the US

Not really possible, a carrier's defense is built for anti-ship cruise missiles, which doesn't travel all that fast compare to a ballastic missile, which can easily go at Mach 20+. But the AEGIS cruisers is supposely able to intercept medium range ballastic missiles, so they might just launch all the missiles they got and hope they hit something.

im sorry, but as far as i am concerend insane, you are an idiot when you say that. Yes, people dont agree with us on the war with iraq and a rift is forming, but dear god if the U.S. is attacked by N.K. with a nuclear weapon what thing seems to make u think that the rift would be large enough to cause countries who are closer to N.K. the the U.S. to not join the U.S. and fight back? i mean yeah sumtimes i do stuff my friends dont want me to do, but if something else happens to me they always help me, and that is the sense i seem to think you are missing.
China i think does not like N.K. having nuclear weapons, and Japan certainly doesnt. Russia doesnt, and neither does the U.S. now why would no one help the U.S. because of a minor incident that we disagreed upon when a major incident is occuring TO the U.S. and may even happen to any ally N.K. feels like attacking? No one will keep a grudge against the U.S. for iraq and use that grudge to not help the U.S. if N.K. were to attack the U.S. Way to many countries depend on the U.S. for economic aid, and sometimes i think it is the U.S. that holds the world together (along with G.B. and maybe China, Japan, and Russia). Without the U.S. i think the world would crumble and i believe some other countries might believe that also.

think wat you might, but on this item i have to disagree with you.

Hey, feel free to disagree with me, but I'm not sure why you feel the need to call me an idiot. I was not talking about NK launching a nuclear attack on the US, I was referring to the US trying to get help from China in resolving the NK situation peacefully and diplomaticaly if possible before it would get to that point. I was jus throwing the idea out there that if we burn too many bridges with the Iraq situation, it may come back to bite us later on.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the response about the military stuff. I wasn't sure what we were / were not capable of. that being said, however, I don't think it would be wise to go to war with NK. With enough pressure we can probably negociate some sort of settlement.

Let them talk trash to till the end of time. We know they cant deliver on any of their threats except those made against South Korea or any south asian neighbors.

Poop on NK.

No. Let's go take these taunting pansies out right after Saddam- I'm sick of their mind games. Do they think they can really play with the United States?

Zakath15 - "<--- lives in Seattle, would prefer not to be vaporized by a two-bit crackpot dictator "

A perfect example of why you stop madmen before they build nuclear weapons. See any link to Sadam here?

Do you people really think the Chinese have any interest in assisting the U.S. in anything?

A nuclear exchange on the Korean pennisula would be a direct threat to China. Do not imagine for an instant that they would not react to a potential exhange in Korea.

"If American forces carry out a pre-emptive strike on the Yongbyon facility, North Korea will immediately target, carry the war to the US mainland," he said, adding that New York, Washington and Chicago would be "aflame".

Hmmmmmm so LA isn't worth aiming for, it seems it would be a lot closer shot. ;)
Stupid North Koreans don't have any maps of the US or what???

'Kim Myong-chol, who has links to the Stalinist regime, told reporters in Tokyo that a US strike on the nuclear facility at Yongbyon "means nuclear war". ' - well isn't that special
You mean to say there's still commies left alive from that fun era?

Edit: Well, from this same site, this is an interesting take on the bin Laden hunt
The US Attorney-General, John Ashcroft, and the director of the CIA, George Tenet, are understood to be among those who oppose any attempt to capture bin Laden alive.

"Estimates vary between 3-5 devices (more likely) all the way to 100 devices (not generally accepted as likely).
Everyone presumes they have atleast a handfull."

I don't presume. I would like to see a credible source for the 3-5 devices, deliverable by ICBM.

While they have untested missles that might be able to hit the west coast, they are in early early development of missles capable of hitting anywhere in the US.

i wonder if they've seen jackass or freddy got fingered:)

I'm pretty sure one of Kim Jong Il's favorite movies is either Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street. He also likes Daffy Duck.

They did in '94, Im sure they think they can do it again. Their nuclear warheads are on untested missles.
