My initial reaction is, "Bring it on!" Am I the only one?

Yes.

I would rather they not bring it on at all, for that means death for our citizens and theirs. May cooler heads prevail.

I am just confused as to how they expect to launch a nuclear attack when the very thing that they claim would cause the strike is us taking out their means to produce a nuclear weapon.

They supposedly have a nuclear arsenal already, consisting of a couple weapons and missiles that can barely reach the west coast of the United States.

Bring it on? Are you in the military or something? If not, who are you to say "bring it on" when you're not even going to be involved?

That was sort of my point - I think it's all BS. They can't possibly be that stupid.

In other words, they've got a pair of aces showing, the US is holding a royal flush, and their bluffing is getting kind of old.

Except how willing will they be to work with us if we go ahead with the war in Iraq without UN approval? Sometimes I don't think people think of the long term problems that could arise by creating this rift we are with other world countries and the UN.

Estimates vary between 3-5 devices (more likely) all the way to 100 devices (not generally accepted as likely). Everyone presumes they have atleast a handfull.

Just curious, but what is a "handful" of nuke weapons? I just thought it was a funny term use to refer to nukes...

i don't see the UN being important in the NK situation, we need to work with China and Japan and of course SK to resolve the situation, the UN doesn't need to muddy the waters

I was infering that the 3-5 number seems to be generally accepted.

They might not be involved directly, but if we strain our relations with countries like China in the current UN situation, they may be a lot less willing to help us out with NK down the line. I just think it's probably not a good idea to give every country that disagrees with us on Iraq the "you're with us or against us" crap.

My question is, although the US has not successfully tested land-based anti-ICBM weapons, what about our aircraft carriers? I know the defenses built on them can take down long range missle threats, and I also know that some of the missiles carried by navy aircraft are capable of hitting incoming targets, so is it possible to set up a screen against NK nuclear missile attack using carrier-based aircraft?

Sorry for my ignorance in this matter.

EDIT: As for the threat. They are bluffing. Kim doesn't want to die. Just like Saddam his primary goal is survival. With a multilateral diplomatic movement it is quite possible this could end peacefully.

im sorry, but as far as i am concerend insane, you are an idiot when you say that. Yes, people dont agree with us on the war with iraq and a rift is forming, but dear god if the U.S. is attacked by N.K. with a nuclear weapon what thing seems to make u think that the rift would be large enough to cause countries who are closer to N.K. the the U.S. to not join the U.S. and fight back? i mean yeah sumtimes i do stuff my friends dont want me to do, but if something else happens to me they always help me, and that is the sense i seem to think you are missing.
China i think does not like N.K. having nuclear weapons, and Japan certainly doesnt. Russia doesnt, and neither does the U.S. now why would no one help the U.S. because of a minor incident that we disagreed upon when a major incident is occuring TO the U.S. and may even happen to any ally N.K. feels like attacking? No one will keep a grudge against the U.S. for iraq and use that grudge to not help the U.S. if N.K. were to attack the U.S. Way to many countries depend on the U.S. for economic aid, and sometimes i think it is the U.S. that holds the world together (along with G.B. and maybe China, Japan, and Russia). Without the U.S. i think the world would crumble and i believe some other countries might believe that also.

think wat you might, but on this item i have to disagree with you.

And on another note, North Korea's WMD cannot go much further inland than persay Las Vegas which would be their maximum range. So i dont know how trustable this soure is.
