my imac isnt displaying pdf documents

Hello,

I bought a new imac, downloaded a pdf, but the imac just wont display the pdf document.
i downloaded adobe reader 9.0 from the net for the mac but still no luck. any idea why i cant diaply the document?

also is there an apple helpdesk for noob's in case i have these nagging issues about why this wont display and how to do that?

Have you tried a different PDF? Maybe if you only tried this one document it's a problem with the doc itself rather than the programs.

I mean, if it didn't open in two diff. programs that seems like the logical conclusion.

The new imac should have a pdf in both the documents and downloads folders. They have stacks on your dock, so you can use those to test. I have yet to come across a PDF that preview wouldn't open, so it might be the file.

thanks for the replies,

i tried the document on my laptop which is running the windows version of acrobat. no problem.

is preview the software which comes with the imac. if it is can you tell me how can i access it there is no start button on my imac :(, i thinnk finder is the equivalent of the start button, but it does not seem to show the programs

i bought the imac a few weeks ago and have not managed to use it that much

Read the guide stickied at the top of the page.

Also, while hovering your cursor over the icon for Safari in your dock, I want you to hold Command and then click that icon. Safari will not open. Instead a Finder (analogous to Explorer, not Start button) window will pop up with all your applications in it. Find preview from there.

Preview should be already set as the default viewer on OS X so just double clicking a file should open it up.
