I have a IBM Thinkpad 2621 I series laptop. The Hard drive died last night and I don't know how to disassemble it to replace the HD. Can anyone tell me how to disassemble my Thinkpad or know a link? I did a search on google but no avail.

Thanks

CAll tech support and they should be able to help you...

Or better yet, if you order another HD for your specific laptop brand line, it comes with instructions on how to disassemble your laptop the correct way..

Just buy another HD... My 2 cents.. Good luck

Have you tried searching in the google pictures ? I guess not as i found this

So look underneath near the front is their any visible bay's, can you take a pic, if so PM me as i have taken apart both the 1200 and 1300 series before.

If it's anything like the thinkpad I have (2628) then there's a screw about 1/2" in diameter on the bottom of the case...I believe it's on the same side as the CD-ROM drive. Anyway, you unscrew the screw with a nickel (this is straight from ibm tech support 😛), then the hard drive tray should slide out. They made it really easy to change hard drives..no need to take apart the thinkpad. Well, at least that's how it was on mine (A20m). Hope that helps...good luck. 🙂 As for your replacement hard drive, they come in two sizes (9.5mm and 11.5mm), so make sure you know which one to get...I believe all the newer ones are 9.5mm.

I took off all the visible screws from the bottom, but haven't been able to take the bottom cover off. I can see the HD is right inside the volume control in the front, but can't remove the volume control piece w/o first removing the bottom cover.

Here is a Link to my laptop.

Thanks
