A rockit tool and relidder takes the risk out of the equation. I could relid a chip in under 10 minutes and glue the lid back on. A trick I use is a wee drop of carazy glue in two corners then black silicone the perimeter leaving a small gap. Basically follow intels lines. The two drops of crazy glue are strong enough to hold the IHS until the silicone dries which is like 24hrs+ so yea, it can take about 10 minutes. If you wanna pay me 50 bucks for that, I'm down lol.

Thanks for the info. If it no longer makes sense to have a processor "binned" at Silly-Lots, I may give it a try with the rocket tool. I'll just wait until I have some chump-change to assuage my curiosity about Kaby Lake firsthand.

You -- or someone -- said they were rocking an H240 X2 Swiftech Cooler? What temperatures do you get under stress with that -- say for IntelBurnTest or OCCT Linpack?

Oh, I see . . . at 5Ghz, "Low 70's with Prime." I should expect high-70s or just below 80 with my cooling solution and a re-lidded chip . . . .

well i cant prime 26.6 at 5.1 with 1.376 on the vcore, and i dont see it worthy to go from 1.344 to 1.392
for 45 mhz

Makes complete sense. That's a good overclock at 1.344v.

I just wanted to concur with the good results of delidding a 7700K. I did much the same as the author. Before delidding, my 7700K would quickly thermal throttle after reaching 100C during Prime95 clocked at 4.9 GHz with a +.050 voltage offset. After delidding, I initially used Thermal Grizzly paste between the core/IHS/heatsink with minimal improvement.

I just today switched over to Liquid Ultra and temps have dropped by at least 10C! Why I say "at least" is that I really don't know how hot the core would have gotten under Prime since it was throttling. Prime now runs without throttling (though still gets hot) when running at 5 GHz with a +0.55 offset. Idle temps have also dropped to 27C from 35C before.

So, although I was a little skeptical, I am very happy with the results!!

actually im getting higher temps then low 70s after an hour of prime its more like 74 to 78 over all 4 cour, im not running it to maximum speed,

awesome, yeah its pretty hard on asus board, i cant get mine passs 3600 on my hero 8 z170 and even at 3600 i cant get it stable, and i could with my 6600k,

by the way i manage to get 5070 stable with uncore at 4810 mhz with 1.360 in prime with avx offset to 1 for prime 27.9, ram at 3466, always get error at 3600 for some reason, guess ill have to wait for other bios or get some b-die samsung memory

Finally put together my new platform. running stock for the meantime, i might try reseating the Noctua cooler to see if i can get better results. so far, boosting to 4.5GHz @ 68-70C at non-AVX load. (CPU-Z showing 1.28v stock).
I haven't OCed since Sandy Bridge, so i need to start reading OC guides.

So DDR4-4266 was a no go in any config - it wouldn't post.

DDR4-4133 is unstable and would only occasionally post.

DDR4-4000 is stable. I have been taking advantage of the Samsung B-DIE memory and tightening the timings at 1.45 VDIMM.

1T at DDR-4000 is a no go, too.

First stability checkpoint below, using IBT 'very high'. Next is to up the uncore, retest and then move on to a Prime95 Blend test. 4.8Ghz uncore fails IBT 2/3 of the way through the test using the below settings, so will work up from 4.5Ghz - I don't want to push the vcore above 1.4v and I've already had to increase to 1.392 to achieve this memory OC.

That is great. I just overclocked my i5 7600k to 4.6GHz on Air and it is prime95 V28.10 stable.
