I have read the manual and can only find their remedy of using HP paper only. I did this and it still will pass as many as 10 sheets at a time. Can I fix this myself?
Help

Often the standard 80g paper si too light for the printer and thus it slips 2 or more sheets into the printer. Try heavier 90-100g paper.

Unfortuatly it looks like you need a seperation pad kit. It sounds like your pad is completely worn and is not seprating the paper properly. I fix this model on a regualr basis and it is not a repair you can do your self. Might be looking at £30+ ($50) if it turns out to be the pad to get it fixed :(

Like Hardware said, there is a kit from HP that will apply a new seperator pad. It's also for the HP 6L,1100 and 3100 which have the same problem. There's plenty of people selling the free kit on fleabay for as much as $30!

edit: It's an extremely easy fix with the kit that you can definitely do yourself:)

I had that problem as well. Using heavy grade paper helped. Also wiping down the rubber pads (that grab the paper) w/a damp cloth improved things too. Hope this helps.

I'll never buy another vertical feed laser printer again.

EDIT: There's also a switch that you select for heavier grade paper like card stock. Make sure that switch isn't set when using regular paper.
