My House Is Dirty, Dusty

What can I use besides my furnace air filter to get some of the dust and dirt out of my house? What is a good product to buy?

Duck tape is the answer. I suggest wrapping yourself in it and then proceed to run around the house. Do a couple laps and you should be good! 😛

If your house is messy, clean it up. Mess attracts dust and makes it hard to clean. If you have carpets, vacuum daily. If you have hard wood floors, dunno, but clean them as well. Wipe dust from flat surfaces such as TVs/Receivers/etc. Buy air purifier, either Sharp FPP60CX, RabbitAir BioGS 421a or Winix 9000.

Hire a maid, pick up some crazy crankster chick...put her ass to work, invest in a good vacuum cleaner...and USE IT.

Siege, how's the sparky biz going? Keeping you busy?

If you live near a heavy traffic street or freeway that'll do it also. Our house is located about 100 ft form a heavy traffic street that leads to the on/off ramps to the 8 freeway, HEAVY ASS traffic during the morning and 2-6 pm, and heavy load of cars all day long. It doesn't help that my window is facing the freeway about 300ft away, yes there are some other houses in between us but I have noticed there are 2 dirt fileds on those properties, I bet that also affects how much dust I get in here.

Antec 1200 air filters FTW 😛

Are you serious? Cleaning is a foreign concept to you?

- Get a good furnace filter
- There are probably sofas or other objects that have been collecting dust for ages. Clean them out/ throw them out. Whatever.
- Get one of those swiffer mops dealies. Don't use a rag or something else because that will just spread the dust around.
- Get off the computer.

Duck tape would leave feathers all over the place then. Plus they tend to bite when held close to the body.

Duct tape would work better. 😛

Duck tape is actually correct. It got its start in the war because it could be applied to almost anything and wouldn't come off in water. When the troops came home they continued to use it everywhere and the industry was born. The stuff they sell now is not used on ducts. I think they named it that way because Duck is a brand name.

Funny meter off?

BTW, Duck tape is a possible original name but not verified.

I had one of these installed at our place and the difference it made was phenomenal.

I'm certain these are made by many manufacturers, this is for reference.

There is a tremendous amount of filtering medium in these. They filter out extremely small particles and have little to no impact on airflow. I only need to change ours once a year if that.

Duct Tape

Use different flooring material other than carpet, because carpet trap dust/dirt in the house, and eventually your house becomes a dust bowl

Install an HRV system with regular filter cleaning/changing will decrease dust/pollutant in the house and increase air quality. However, it doesn't eliminate regular house cleaning.
