My hotmail is sending out spam emails

SAWYER

Lifer
I have been getting these failed delivery emails to a few address but it looks like it is sent out successfully to other email addresses. It is usually some spammy link, what do I do?

it could just be somebody using your hotmail as the return mail address too. Meaning its not originating from your account, but you get the bounced back junk and the (ignorant) blame.

I will return SPAM back with junk of my own. If it bounces; then I will dig into the headers and find the real culprit address and send it to there.

I heard doing that is actually a bad idea since your email address is now flagged as 'active' by the spammer and he now knows that someone actively checks that email address. So you'll probably be getting more spam than if you had just ignored it.

It's fake. It's just another method of tricking you into clicking a link or emailing. Just delete it and ignore it. This kind of fake "failed delivery" spam has been going on forever.
