MY home theater pics (basement converted to theater)

Well I don't know how they woulc compare with the newer systems out there but I know a guy who has a home theater built around a pair of Polk SRTs. OMG! Those thingsa sounded amazing. We watched Jurassic Park. When the Tyranosaurus came out his steps shook the whole house and his roar sounded like it was right in my face!

How would a pair of SS tubes compare to the B12-Plus/4?

Since the tubes could be put in each corner it seems that room gain potential would be better.

Does the B12-Plus/4 have greater anechoic output than a pair of SS tubes side by side given the same power? Anyone know?

Thanks for the link, those look pretty bad ass. I wonder what the lower end comparison would be (my system vs that)

The guys over at SVS customer support are very helpful with talking about their products and comparisons etc.

I'm sure they could give you informed answers to those questions.

I'll have to give them a ring.

This ought to be fun. 🙂

Yeah dude, they are the best when it comes to customer service. They actually tried to talk me down to a sub that was $400 cheaper than the one I got once I gave them the dimensions of the room and what I wanted to get out of the sub. I wanted the bigger toy though.

Awesome setup, I'd love to do the same at my house.

I hate to say anything negative, but...
Although I think the carpet is a cool touch, you need a popcorn cart. And for God's sake call a chick who can match the wall color to the carpet.

You sons of b*tches 😉...

again, about the wall color...it DOES match the colors in the carpet. In fact besides the black and red, those 2 colors of blue are prominent throughout the whole carpet on the reels and film pieces of the carpet. I did not want black and I did not want deep red. It would have made the small room even smaller.

I think I would have gone with black to control lighting even more (light spill from projector, reflections from screen hitting walls)

I don't mind the blue though.

Tomboy here sorry.

I had some concerns about this as well. In fact I was adament about doing an all black room (or at least on the ceiling and the side walls). Some other ppl suggested the blues that came out of the carpet reels/film on the carpet. When the lights are out, it looks pretty close to black on the walls. I would not see a true black paint improving things well enough to justify making the room look smaller (and not so pleasing). I think the pure black would have made the room depressing 🙂

please put the speakers in the wall.

thanks

No thanks. I prefer audio accuracy over the room looking the most pleasant. This room is not used for anything else, so the additional space saved would not have been used anyways. I love the look and power of speakers in a room for some reason as well....

Have you tried moving the front speakers closer to the screen? Why are they so far out from the "screen" wall?

I wish they were not as far from the screen. What dictated this was the subwoofer placement. Since that sub is so friggin big and had to be in that corner, I had no choice but to move the left channel in front of it. This forced the remaining front speakers to the same position in the room.

I wish my room was about 2 feet wider. I could have placed the sub in the corner and had the floorstanders only 12 - 24 inches off the wall (best results typically for these speaks) and right next to the border of the screen.

Maybe the next room 🙂.

I refer to my female friends as 'dudes' as much as I call my male friends 'dudes', but I am sorry if that offended you.

I know that my white room is not ideal for my projector usage, but yeah I could see how that room could become a cave pretty easily 😉

The SS perform like the CS-Ultra, sound wise (though not visually). I would guess about 3 SS perform like one B12-Plus/4.

This being said, the TV-12 driver does seem to sound slightly different from the dB-12.

Honestly, putting one SS per corner is not that easy in most rooms. You tend to get weird nulls and peaks that are difficult to individually address, especially if your listening position is not localized. Many find it easier putting them all in one corner.

nice setup but the paint is horrific.. paint it a dark burgundy... get some curtains on the wall.. it'll add depth and texture

I'm an avid HT fan so I'll not be extremely critical. First off, Hide the wiring. YOu can have the best equipment in the world, but if its setup like crap and looks the part, I would not want to even be near that setup. Secondly- Have you tuned your HT using AVIA or DVD essential? I would also change the entire cosmetics of the room. The paint selection with carpet choice looks purely atrocious. WHile I am at it- Why dont you move the rear speakers behind the couch, or more towards to listeners ear? Overall, ITs a respectable setup. My setup includes the following: Denon 5805, Krell AMp, Paradigm Studio series speakers, Denon 3910 DVD player, Dish Network 921 DVR setup and a Pronto TSU7000 remote. All wiring is Bluejeanscable, not the monster junk. The screen is a Samsung DLP, soon to be replaced with a projector setup. Forgot to add, I also have auto- dim lighting and Aura bass shakers...
you rock. I agree with 99% of what you said. I personally think the speakers are too large for the space. agree with the wall paint comment.
And agree that overall it's very respectable.

Additional comment regarding wall treatment.
With only sheetrock over studs, you may have an interesting acoustic profile in the room. I would consider some diffusion and bass trapping in there , and I'll bet it sweetens up very nicely.
Home theatres have a lot in common with recording studios, in terms of controlling sound in small environs.
PM if you want more dissertation on this.

No offense taken it's just weird as there seems to be quite a bit of guys on this forum using the female avatar and everyone assumes I am one of them. 🙂

Wow that is impressive.

Do you know if these woofers prefer a strictly high current stout regulated amp (aka Krell, Mark Levinson, etc.) or a more conventional unregulated type? I want to maximize my power here and nothing is worse than wasting Krell amps (pun not intended) on high - Z coils where the Apogees and Thiels love them.

Don't get me wrong we're not bass freaks like Mr. Sharkeeper and his substation mega bass system that doubles as a defibrillator but if it's in the program we like to feel it. 🙂

No need at all, save your money. Pick up something cheap and efficient. The Crown K2 is an excellent choice for the cash. If you want to go even cheaper, there's a bunch of other choices in professional amps, but most of them are actively cooled.

I would assume Crown is a good choice too as that's what SVS has chosen to sell in SS packages

I'm planning on doing this with my new house (should be done in the next month or so). I'm going with an acoustically transparent screen though so I can put my center channel behind the screen, and I think I'm going to get real theater seats. Can't wait 🙂
