My HL2 problem

Anywhere there is water, I get blinking lines across the water. They are large white lines, look kinda like lines in a road, evenly spaced across any water texture. Any ideas?

How do I get console to load?

I have a 3500 A64 and a X800PRO video card. Used default settings, which is everything on high, and water is set to reflect real world.

Oh, and how do I access console. Everyone keeps posting a console command to see FPS, but I can't get console.

In order to get teh console you need to add -console to your launcher string in steam.

The " ~ " tilde key should bring down a console. I don't know what to type in there to enable FPS monitor but the ~ worked on mine.

Just got the 4.11 a few days ago. Everything else works great. And the ONLY problem in HL2 that I see is the water effect.

Try experimenting with the graphic detail settings in the game, like change filtering methods or the level of shaders etc. and see if you can make it go away.

I'm pretty sure that's a known problem with some systems (specular mapping issue), and it's fixed in the 4.12b beta driver. I'd give it a shot.

Well, I encountered other textures being screwed up later in the game, so I uninstalled steam completely, and redownloaded the game. Fixed everything. :)

I like cl_showfps 2

1 updates the readout so fast I can't hardly read it. 2 updates the readout slower
