Doesn't look like I needed an ATI card for HL2. :)

And yes, the benchmark is of the HL2 engine, not CSS.

CSS graphics are decent.

The HL2 benchmark shader effects are crazy. Best water I have seen in a game yet.

Nor do you need a Nvidia card for Doom3, but the fact that both cards may run the game adequately isn't the point people argue on these boards, it's which is faster

Hmm. On the edge of playable. Are you overclocked? If you are that's a pretty steep drop from the CSS benches on vr-zone

correct me if im wrong, but arent the benches at vr-zone NOT using the actual HL2 bench that just got released w/ the beta?

That is the average so very playable. This is the first HL2 benchmark with all the HL2 effects, not a CSS benchmark. That explains the difference. ;)

I have nothing overclocked. Bring on HL2!

Well, I would think that 5 frame per second difference between a Pentium 4 3.0C and an Athlon 64 3800+ is an acceptable drop in frame rates. Certainly not as steep of a drop as I would expect or you seem to think it is. And about it being on the edge of playable, I guess Doom 3, Neverwinter Nights, and most other Open GL games are unplayable on any ATI card by those standards?

I don't understand exactly what you mean by this. Can you explain the difference between what you are doing and what is being tested at vr-zone?

New HL2 "stress test" is available through Steam (today). It's full of funky PS effects, and looks very similar to E3 2002 demonstration.

HL2 Stress test =| VrZone CS Source Test.

Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2 are both on the same game engine. Of course I don't think the current CS levels will be that intense in graphics even when ported to source... It looks exactly the same as the e3 demo...

Depends. I consider anything below 40 fps choppy for a relatively fast paced shooter, and 52 fps means the minimum could easily be in the 30s with multiple enemies and such on screen.

No, but they are unplayable at the same settings that Nvidia cards are. Other people might have different standards than I do about what they consider acceptable.

In order for Gabe to be correct The x800 XT would have to be pushing 73 fps in this game at those settings.

There is a HL2 benchmark that was included with the phase 2 Counterstrike Source beta that launched today. VR-Zone is benching CSS, I am benching HL2 benchmark that showcases the HL2 engine abilities.

I too can notice stutters when a game gets below 40 (not 30) and there was 0 stutter during the benchmark so that is why I said very playable.

That's pretty nice , for stock 3ghz and 6800 GT. IF you OC to 3.2 - 3.4 , and ULtra levels i'm sure you'd push past 60 mark.

I'm running 3.2 ghz and 6800GT oced to Ultra speeds with 2001 FP Dell so i'm very glad 1600x1200 is playable.

system is my sig..

10x7 no AA/no AF = 95 fps
16X12 no AA/no AF = 54 fps

not too bad for an "older" system

details all on high

I think I'll wait until HL2 releases before I believe any benchmarks. Or at least read anands review of it.

5fps/sec is not the case between a P43.0c and an A643800+ . More like 10-20fps/sec...
Trust me :D

Is it possible to post some screenshots FluxCap? (No offence mate I wanna see it with my eyes)
