President Thomas Jefferson - Died July 4, 1826

General George Patton - Died December 21, 1945

President Ronald Reagan - Died June 5, 2004

My Dad - Still alive and kicking!!!

Six off the top of my head:

Jeanette Rankin -- for having the steadfast courage of her convictions, mo matter what.

Nelson Madela -- A giant of a man. Truly the modern father of his country. He spent 26 straight years in prison for his cause. He was repeatedly offered immediate freedom if he would only sign a piece of paper renouncing his struggle. He always refused. Boer guards at the prison had to be regularly rotated out becuase they almost universally came to sympathize with the man,. His mother died while he was incarcerated. A Nationalist Party official came and taunted him about it. Yet when he was released, he held no hate in his heart, and counciled conciliation and forgiveness for all, and put into practice that which he preached.

Pres. Theodore Roosevelt -- A Republican who actually took on big business and cared about the environment.

Pres. Franklin Delano Roosevelt -- He led us through arguably the two greatest crises of the Twentieth Century with vision and determination. A true stateman.

Pres. Harry S. Truman -- A plain spoken, straight talking and muscular epitome of the proud American Liberal traditon. On his desk stood the sign: "The buck stops here." Against fierce opostion, he intergrated the United States Army. Give 'em hell, Harry!

Pres. and General of the Army Dwight David Eisenhower -- He served his country virtually his entire life. A dyed in the wool conservative Republican, it was he who first warned our country about the military industrial complex, (*cough*, Haliburton).

few on top of my head, not much into hero worshipping but these I have the highest respect for,

Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela in politics

Steven Stahlberg, Feng Zhu, Craig Mullins, Linda Bergkvist, Pascal Blanche, Hyun Kyoungup, Anders Ehrenborg, Julian Johnson-Mortimer, Matt Clark are then just a few that have nothing to do with politics

I'd like to add one other. Former Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, who, on Flag Day, June 14th, 1943, in the midst of the life and death struggle of WWll, wrote the decision that Jehovah Witness school children did NOT have to stand for the pledge of allegiance in school or salute the flag:

"If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion."

Such political courage and allegiance to the highest and purest principles of the United States of America, no matter the ignorant prevailing opinion of the war frenzied masses, is especially prescriptive for these jingoistic times.

I suppose your next most favorite person is whomever voted in favor of abortion?

I mean, I can totally see your point in having to show respect for the flag.. thats ruining America.. God forbid everyone shows some respect for the symbol of their freedom. What we need in this country is more disrespect for the flag, more abortions, more drug use, less religion.. and for the love of god, can we FINALLY pay teachers what they are worth? :roll:

Your political views are apparently more akin to fascism than conservatism.

Having the right to dissent is what makes our country great. It's people like you that belong in despotic countries where you can worship your cult-leader all you want and not dissent against anything. People should be allow to criticize the constitution, the flag, and the president. If you don't think people should be able to, you are not really into real democracy.

I actually thought long and hard. I did'nt choose politicians or activists. I've always admired people who improved other aspects of our lives and affected the whole world with thier accomplishments.

#1 Johann Guttenberg. His invention of the printing press changed the world faster than any other single event in history I would think. Allowing all people no matter thier social standing, access to the printed word. knowledge was passed down and built upon. People became literate.

A few more and Im sure we all know who they are.

I forgot to add Sam Walton to my list of heros. He demanded "Made in America" in his stores - it's too bad his spirit or business wasn't held on to once he was gone.

"Made in America" or "Made if America." If it was the former, what's your position on free trade?

(I think being the first to go "negative" is worse than being the second to go '"negative." And I don't really have a problem with negativity (criticism) per se, it's just I thought crimson was one of those anti-bashing people who seems to be bothered by so-called "negativity." The only thing I don't like about crimson's post (besides its content) is the agressive sarcasm.)

Spit on the constitution? Justice Robert Jackson bravely and courageously upheld it in the face of foaming proto-facist troglodytes like you.
