My Heater Broke...

Mai72

Lifer
The heater went out last night. Its freezing. 45 degrees and quickly dropping. What can I do?

I'm dying. God, I'm dying it's so cold. 🙁

Chop off your limbs to conserve heat in your core. You'll get 12 more hours of life than if you dont.

hmmm, this is a tough one, lemme think, maybe call your landlord or hvac company for emergency repair? 😛

If its a house I would also turn the water off at the main and drain the lines before they freeze as well. Don't want to go from bad to much worse.

Do you own or rent? What heat source and fuel is it?

Wait, are you in China right now?? If so, I'm sure you could find like.. 30-40 peasant types that you could pay like $.25 each to lay on you. Forget the fattie.

Its a rental and the landlord is in Florida.

What a time for this to happen. I'm going to talk to him very soon.

maybe the fan breaker just tripped?
Could be.

The wind was blowing very strong and was blowing right into the exhaust. Every time the furnace started it would make a loud banging sound.

How the hell did they deal with the cold 500 years ago? What about the American Indians. Surprised they were able to deal with the cold. Maybe we've gotten too soft? Too much video games and internet!

Put on multiple layers of clothes
Yep. Long johns, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt (turtle neck) and a sweat shirt with a jacket and blankets being optional. This is what I wore during that ice storm a year or two ago.

You could also curl up to a nice quad core running prime 95 .

P.S. The oven with the door open does help. If you were my neighbor you could borrow my little ceramic heater.

seems normal, especially if you just turned the radio up till you couldn't hear it anymore right? 😉

People weren't pussies 500 years ago.
