I've been everywhere with this, anc chances are I've already asked here, but I don't know what to do. I'm dazed, alone, and penniless and all that keeps my will to live is the thought that one day I'll stumble on a solution. So round and round I go to message boards and various individuals asking the same questions again and again. It's all I know.

I recently put together an Athlon system using fairly new components to construct it assuming that since they were all relatively new and most were reccomended on various sites, I wouldn't have a problem.

OK. Here's the problem. At 100MHz FSB I get a "Windows Protection error, please restart your PC" notice without fail. At 90MHz, my system runs fine. It was claimed by a very reputable individual that my CPU is capable of 950 easily and that there have never been any problems with any other like it that's been sold. I was hoping myself for some 1050 luvin' so I wouldn't neet to go buy a new CPU in like, 3 years.

I have the latest Detonators, BIOS revision, board model revision, and would have the latest Kenwood firmware update if Kenwood's firmware update would frickin' update my Kenwood firmware. If a wood chuck could chuck wood.

Anyway, HELP! What could possibly be going wrong? I just want my computer to run. I've dumped a couple thousand bucks into this and I just want to relax now. My father said it's a learning experience... The learning experience is frickin' over. I'm done learning. I want to play my games now and look forward to learning more LATER.

Could be that you were cheated and got a 66mhz ram?

You could try to remove everything from the computer except the most essential things. Run the CPU at default clock speed and skip the soundcard, nic, modem and everything that you dont need. Then try booting it with 100mhz fsb

Oh I've definitely done that. I tried it with just the essentials in, but it still hassles me. It's done this through 3 individual video boards, so it's not video, so it's down to CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

The RAM I could bitch to Micron about and get that replaced no problem, the motherboard would grate, but I could maybe probably somehow get another... ugh. But the CPU being the problem would... when I think about that a shapeless, wordless rage burns in the back of my mind.

I will check my RAM though...

Any other ideas? Perhaps it's not so narrow after all. *whimper*

Have you read the reports about remarked Athlons? could you have a fake?

What kind of P/S do you have, and could that be causing your problem... I noticed that the Tornado 1000, comes with a 250W P/S standard...... AMD suggests a 300W....

Did you try different slots for the RAM?

Well it has been modified, but I bought it knowing that.

I did try different slots for the RAM, and I bought the Antec PP303x.

That definately sounds like a RAM problem. Try some good PC133 RAM (like the micron stuff, infineon, etc.) and it will probably work Even though it only runs at 100MHz, many of those boards are very picky about RAM and you will most likely have better luck with PC133.

Other than that, make SURE you have a good powersupply (preferably at least 300 watt) and make sure that the CPU is getting the correct voltage -- you can check that under hardware monitoring in the BIOS.

I have an athlon 750 on a K7V with pc133 apacer ram and i have huge problems @ 100mhz fsb

so much so that I now just run it at 92mhz and am happy that it at least works now


I have heard from a lot of people with 750mhz athlons that they are having weird problems too....


could there have been a bad batch of 750's ?

Maybe I'll just sell the CPU to some dolt on 3b4y for 500 bucks and get a Thunderbird. A Thunderbird would work fine on my K7M.

but first I'll try RAM.
