I had a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200gb Hard drive in an external enclosure. Everything thing was working fine today, but when I hooked up the enclosure and turned it on, it did did a beep (similar to a midi phone ring), I figured it was the enclosure, so I opened it up, and disconnected then reconnected everything.. same problem.. I tried it with no HD, and the enclosure itself got detected by the laptop.
I have a PC downstairs, so I set the harddrive to slave, and plugged it into the IDE.. same beeps, and the boot process wouldn't get past the IDE Detection
The beeps clearly seem to be coming from the harddrive, but when I look at Maxtor's support site, it said that there are no internal speakers in their harddrives..
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am going to go run a powermax test now, but I'm posting this so that hopefully there will be some other suggestions in the event that it passes.
Thanks
