I have an 80gb Western Digital 7200rpm that won't format on my new computer. The drive is detected in bios and I have successfully installed Windows XP on a smaller older drive on the same computer. I've tried with the jumper on Master and CS and get the same result. Should I return the drive because it's ?

What method are you using to format? There are several ways to format. What are you doing exactly?

What motherboard do you have? How are you trying to set it up? Ntfs, fat32, primary or extended partition?

Western Digital has a jumper setting for master without slave drive and another setting master with slave present. Do you have set correctly? I am assuming that you are trying to make it master.

I have an ASUS P4PE motherboard, I'm having the computer boot off of the CD and the only options I'm getting are to format as NTFS, and NTFS quick. I have the jumpers set correctly I'm trying to make it the Primary master hard drive

You're trying to install XP, right? If your drive is larger than 32MB, NTFS will be your only option.
