My hand is hurting.. I need a light gaming mouse and a new mousepad

I'm using Intellimouse explorer 3.0 right now and it's a bit big and heavy for my hands, I need a new mouse that is lighter and not too small, preferably 5 buttons what should I get?

Also I need a real durable and smooth mousepad, this corepad isn't working well.. what do you guys recommend?
 
Logitech MX518 coupled with a Rocketfish double sided mousepad. I have two MX518s and two Rocketfish mousepads because I like them so much. Best combo ever. I prefer the Control side of the mousepad though which is slightly rougher than the Speed side.
 
I used a MX500 a few years ago, and found it was a bit big for me. Right now, I'm using a Razer Diamondback 3G (7 buttons), and it's a bit easier to handle (lighter and a smaller footprint). I'd like to upgrade to a G9 at some point though -- it's supposed to be a bit smaller than the old MX and G5/G7 style mice.

Edit: Here's a picture of a lineup of Logitech mice -- the G9 does look noticeably shorter than the G5. I *think* the other two mice in that picture are the VX Revo and VX Nano. I've tried both at a display at Best Buy. The VX Revo fits me pretty well, maybe a tiny bit on the small side, but I'd expect that from a notebook mouse.

Now I just need my Diamondback to break so I'll actually have an excuse to get a new G9 😀...

As for a mousepad -- maybe you should try a glass (Icemat) or aluminum pad.
 
I have big hands and have problems finding mice that are big enough so I can't recommend any particular mouse but I can say you should find one that allows your had to be curved like a claw. I find ones that force my hand to stretch out flat kill my hands. Best to go to a store that has the mice out on display.

Also the G5/7/9 are about the same size as the one you are currently using but can have their weight adjusted without mods. I use the MX1000, but it's wireless connection is contrary, it's big and I guess you could call it heavy.
 
Logitech G9 is very customizable. I like a heavy mouse, so I have maximum weight installed, but without weights, it's light as a feather.

The G5 is good too.....traditional grip and shape that's worked well for years and it comes with weights.
 
I like to move my mouse with my fingertips, with my hand resting on the desk. Maybe it's because I have big hands. The only mouse I really find comfortable is the $10 logitech mouse I got at walmart.
 
Another vote for G5/G9 without weights if you want something light. I recently got my first Razer and the quality is not at the level of Logitech mice.

The Everglide Titan is the best mousepad I've used. I find hard mousepads to be too scratchy.

QFT.. It's so good I brought it to my new Macbook Pro and paid money to get special software for it - and it's worth it. This is THE mouse.
 
I have a Razer Diamonback for my office machine. Its light.
I also got a DeathAdder for my game system at home. Its pretty light too.

Wont get into how much I love Razers. We go over this issue routinely in the Peripherals section.

The G7 is a wireless mouse 😕. I don't think most of us use wireless mice for gaming. Mind you, I haven't used that particular mouse, but I do own other wireless mice, and the slight lag is a no-go for FPSs.

G7 also only has a single side button, which is a downgrade if you're coming from many other Logitech mice. Only other major complaint that I've heard is short battery life, although it sounds as if they corrected that in later versions. I've had good experiences with wireless mice from Logitech in the past but my G9 is worth dealing with a tail (its much better than the MX Revolution).

Another vote for the G9 though, its incredibly smooth with tracking and the most comfortable mouse I've used. Definitely check it out in person first though to make sure you like the grip. BB and MicroCenter have them on display for sure and even though it looks like its molded for lefties, its just about perfect for those who claw-grip their mice. My only real complaint is there isn't enough counter-pressure for the side buttons.

There's two body chassis, fat body with a rubberized grip and the smaller body with a textured plastic grip. Over time, the rubberized grip on the fat body can peel from wear, which is slightly annoying. Amazon runs some nice sales on the G9 from time to time; I got mine for $40 after 10 MIR about 6 months ago.
 
Ever consider a trackball? Gets a while to get used to it but, there's much less motion to use it.
