My gym just got a Crossfit "cage" (for lack of a better description) with a set of rings and some other fun stuff.

Anyone ever done workouts on rings? I did some pull ups on them and might try to do dips later this week. When I was a kid I did Gymnatics for 5 years and my best area was rings, I was able to do all those stupid crazy stuff that my significantly bigger frame can no longer do (yet!)

I've Google'd and found a few bits of useful info but nothing solid, just pieces. Wondering if anyone has any recommended workouts or routines, or resources.

i just did a workout yesterday that involved rings:

21-15-9 rep rounds of

overhead squats at 95#
toes to bar (done using the rings so they were really toes to rings)
ring dips

there is another workout that involves doing ring pushups and yet another that features ring rows (imagine a reverse pushup with your feet resting on a box and keep your body straight with your arms extended and holding the rings then pull yourself up to a horizontal position).

you could also try to do a muscle up. youtube it. i can't at work.

I've done pullups, will do dips, and I did inverted rows today as well (we have another hanging contraption for that). I knew about muscle ups, I just can't do them...yet!

Eventually work up to ring HSPU (handstand push-ups), then front/back lever progressions, muscle-up, back roll to support...that's what I like to do on the rings. Also, I liked the book "Building The Gymnastic Body" when I borrowed it.

inverted rows are very good, one of the few closed chain row exercises.

Any reason you're training with rings? I ask because they are a more advanced / specialised piece of equipment...dipping with parallel bars and chinning with a chin bar work wonders for a physique, with less technical skill involved.

Just a question, not a criticism. Horses for courses.
