My guess on the new nVidia launch

Maybe this has been stated before but this is what I have come up with.


Current 8800GTS is discontinued.


8800GT - 96 shader processors , higher clock (65nm) faster than the current GTS ($200-$300)

8800GTS - 112 shader processors , higher clock (65nm) ($300-$400)

8800GTX - 128 shader processors , higher clock (65nm) ($400-$500)


This is purely guesses, especially with no news on a GTX part being redone. But I think this hits the price points for great sales. Comments?

Even if there is a new GTX, I don't see a reason for them to drop the msrp below $499.99.

Also, I don't know if the 8800GT could possibly have 96SPs, it's looking more and more like 112SPs unless the clocks are higher than the 1.5GHz reported. The benchmarks that have been leaked (which could be false, obviously) seem to point significantly faster SM3.0 performance compared to the 8800GTS.

If the 256mb is $179-$199, and the 512mb is $239-259, then the new 640mb 8800GTS I'm guessing will be $349.99, and the GTX will remain at $499.99.

If the new GTS is in fact still on the 90nm process as reported, then there's pretty much no chance the GTX will be, either.

I would think the 8800GTS/GTX/ultra will be with us as long as nVIDIA has cleared its inventory of G80 chips. By that time, and if my predictions are correct, then we will see them launch the full flegded G92 i.e 65nm of G80, with tweaks here and there to combat the dual RV670 i.e R680.

If a new GTX comes out im going to definitely step-up to it. i have until dec 15th to trade up to a newer/better card through evga. i cant wait to see whats coming out.

What do you mean "trade up". Does this have something to do with EVGA?

What do you mean "trade up". Does this have something to do with EVGA?

Yes thats eVGA step up program. Buy an evga card and with in 90 days you can upgrade to a newer card - the amount you spent on the old card.

Actually it's a terrible price point, since the 2950XT is expected to be $249.
