Question My GTX 780 is giving up the ghost, what's an inexpensive replacement?

Current card has 3GB GDDR5 and runs at 862 MHz.

Other specs:
ASUS H87-Plus
Intel i5-4670 @ 3.8 GHz
2x4GB Corsair DDR3 PC3-10700H (667 MHz)

I play games, but only in 1080p and I don't require top visual detail. Not looking for an upgrade as such, just something with similar power is fine. It should be reasonably quiet and durable though.

All suggestions welcome!

New or used? A GTX 1060 with either 3 or 6 Gb memory would be similar in capability, although somewhat improved over the GTX 780.

If you want something good that's also really cheap check the RX 570. Newegg has them for $130 to $140 and they're a bit of an upgrade over a GTX 780 just because of better optimization for newer games. Plus you get two free games: your choice between Resident Evil 2 Remake, Devil May Cry 5, and The Division 2. RE2 is incredible, one of the greatest remakes I have ever played. Then DMC5 is killing in the reviews.

If you want a really serious upgrade without breaking the bank, the GTX 1660 for $220 is probably the way to go, though GTX 1660 Ti for $280 or RTX 2060 for $350 might be worth considering too.

$179 gtx1650 will be out in 2 or 3 week's. As fast as a gtx1060/rx580 for less, also will only use about 100 watts.

Should be a good deal faster than a 780 too. 75% faster.

In a similar situation for my son (who has a 770). I am looking at getting a second hand RX 580 4gb. That's cheap and pretty fast.

Either the 1660 or the 470 are good choices. Really just comes down to the money, but a 1660 will be a little more future proof.

I would consider the Rx 580 w/ 8GB as they are priced decent enough.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I think I'll spring for the 1660. A tad more than I was going to spend, but it seems to more than make up for it in terms of futureproof-ness.

That page has mention of "QuantumCloud" service, that you run on your GPU, and make some (small) money every month via Paypal deposits.

It's very light on what it does. Crypto cracking for the TLAs? Mining ETH for the owners, and users not getting their full share?

They estimated that a 1070 owner would make $10/mo using that service.

I remember when I had a 1070 ti, I made $5/day off of that card with NiceHash.

Interesting that there is an alternative to NiceHash, should the bottom completely drop out of mining.

Just a followup - I managed to pick up one of these new (asus so has 3 year warranty) for under £100 off ebay. Seems no one wants them being as they were twice that price a few months ago (and even more during mining boom).
