the smoking thread triggered a memory. i remember as a kid my grandma used to dip snuff. i still have a couple of the empty old glass bottles. but i remember when we went to arkansas to vist she would insist on "giving me sugar" by planting big wet kisses on my cheeks. i would fight tooth and nail becacause she would always have a cheek full of that foul snuff. since she was quite old by the time i was born she would mostly stay in her rocking chair and spit in a coffee can that was next to it.

yes my dads parents were country folk. i thank him everyday for going to college and getting out of the cotton farming business.

Snort chewing tobacco? No, you place it in between your cheek and gums and sort of suck on it. The saliva that accumulates you spit out. They also sell pouches of the stuff so it doesn't cut up your gums and so you don't swallow the tobacco.

Aren't snuff and chewing tobacco two different things?

I think the OP got his slang terms mixed up. Either way, a guy who dips is disgusting enough, but a woman is just........bleh.

We have a guy here that dips nonstop - disgusting. It gets on the urinal when he spits it out, on the floor, just about every trashcan (not necessarily *in* the can), etc etc. It's nasty. His teeth are turning colors. Not browns, but greens.

I remember not long ago he was having health problems, and his doc told him to quit or it would mess up his heart/shorten his life etc. He quit for a week.

AND he's a redneck, so he's not the cleanest person - sometimes you can talk to him and he'll have some on his face, shirt, whatever. When he cleans it out or puts more in, he doesn't wash his hands, just wipes it off on his shirt/jeans whatever. Puke.

I used to dip Skoal about 20 years ago. About 2 cans a day, too. Back then Coke 20 oz came in bottles, with a screw top cap and with a styrofoam wrap around the bottle. I used a whole mess of bottles and just tossed them in the back of my car. Living in Florida, it got pretty hot. Imagine that! Bottles were piled up almost to the top of my seat, from the rear floor. Following the laws of physics, fermentation proceeded to take place in the bottles until one day, one, if not more of them, exploded all over my car. Luckily I was not in the car when the device went off. The bottles were behind my seat and I found two bottle tops on my dashboard. That was how big the bang must have been. Of course, the stench of rotten spit and tobacco was practically overwhelming. Had to steam clean the entire inside of the vehicle because I had juice all over the ceiling, seats, you name it.

Another time I was driving and I got my cups confused and took in a whole mouthful of brown goodness. Pulled off the road and puked a good bit. Thank God I gave up that wonderful habit many years ago.

Peace

My dear, sweet Grandmother used to chew "Mammoth Cave Twist" chewing tobacco.
I'm sure this is a brand limited to Kentucky, but it is chewing tobacco twisted like a rope, then twisted again like those """Twists" you get at the doughnut shop. This stuff was dry, I tell ya. Not like todays chewing tobacco in pouches. She would break her off a small piece & chew it.
God rest her soul, a finer woman was truly never born.

I used to work with a guy who swallowed his dip. I am about to gag even thinking about this right now.

I was smart enough to stop a long time ago. Look up some pics of people with mouth cancer. Thats what scared the fluck out of me, for sure.

IMO, he's making a racist implication.
