hi guys...
i just recently bought a gigabyte 7970 oc, conected it to my pc, set it all up, installed all the drivers Ect..
when i installed and started a game ,crysis, crysis warhead, metro or so it began to make a squealing noise. it seems as the harder the gpu works the lower the pitch... until it goes so low that the whole computer to shuts down... the fps are low too ,i only get about 30sec of actual gameplay anyway before it crashes.
i personally think its not getting enough power....:|

what do you guys think?? i give ya my specs

CPU: i7 2700k
CASE: Guardian 912 rb
HDD : WCD green 1tb
RAM: 16gb 1333mhz ddr3
MoBo: Asrock pro3 gen3
DRIVE: Super Multi combo 22x
most importantly ...
PSU: LMC Honli ATX-850W

Thanks

Sounds like a fan issue. If the chip gets hot enough, it might cause a emergency shutdown. Try running HWMonitor or anything else that displays your GPU temps at report your idle temps. You'll probably have to RMA it.

What GFX card did you have before?

By the sound of it I would just RMA the GFX card.

Your PSU should be able to deliver 456W on the 12V to the CPU and GFX card. And I doubt they would end up over 350W. So even tho you got some cheapo poor PSU it should still be enough.

Have you overclocked your CPU?

OP if you can't deal with the coil whine you need to RMA the card. The replacement will probably have it as well though. Maybe you could call the manufacturer or even try to get a refund. I know I like my PC quiet and I would be pissed if there were coil whine on such an expensive card.

Definitely Power supply. Is taking bets allowed on Anandtech? Looking to get some action from this kid's dilemma here.

Only if the moderators get to take a rake ;)
