depending on your major, i dont think it matters as long as you keep a 2.0 and get your degree. if you are really worried, try getting some experience now. i think that will count more.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a 1.7 after 1 semester. I've managed to pull it up to a 2.9 after 2 and a half years.

You're gonna have a hard time getting into grad school (if you want to go to grad school) with that GPA.

Been there. I had a 1.9 after two years and barely made it to a 2.0 in order to transfer into the Business school before my Junior year. I graduated two years later with a 2.8 and a 4.0 in my major. I know some interviewers didn't like my 2.8 GPA, but I found a job. Time to set your priorities.

It's not him. I roughly know what kind of computer hardware my friend runs and ghettofob's systems don't match up. I'm such a nerd.

My GPA right now is a complete disaster, I have no idea how the hell anyone is going to get useful info out of it. My transfer GPA is appalling and my overall GPA is pretty bad because of my transfer GPA. But my major and upper division GPAs are both 3+ so I have no idea how the hell this is all going to work out when I go work.

As for the big companies asking 3.2+, I think it's because companies are testing the waters. Economy is kind of recovering, so everyone wants to play it safe. IMO the fact that ECEs are being hired at all when other fields are laying people off says alot. I think once the economy is ok again, us ECEs will get hired out regardless of GPA. :D

Then I think you should compensate with a lot of experience. Or if you don't mind, take a lot more classes that has nothing to do with your major but are easy. For example take 2-3 classes during the summer that you know you can easily get an A in. Should boost your GPA somewhat.

Yes very true.

BTW Bluga, are you doing well in your upper division courses at least? I would assume companies would still hire you even if you don't have a 3.2+ GPA, given you are getting good grades on upper division courses. Like anyone really care about geography, history, and all them gay GE classes.

BTW -

GPA will never even be considered for a job after you're first one (3-4 years). don't worry, just graduate.

i don't have any "geography, history, and all them gay GE classes", all i have are technical courses, however oue school is extremely harsh on us, the class average GPA is always around 2.5-2.7, however my classs rank isn't THAT bad, i'm usually around 95 out of 210 ppl, but i doubt companies will look at this since its not on transcript.

Find a company to intern with in the summers. Or go all out and do a coop through your program. Experience easily makes up for lower grades.

grades don't matter...only the enormous companies (BIG 5 ---no not the sporting goods store) do GPA verification...a degree is a degree...ppl don't care

it simply shows them that you are "trainable"

my GPA sucks too .. it's all because I'm trying to do EE and CS major during my freshman year, and sophomore year I was severely affected *financially* by the Asian's economy crisis. Now i'm in the business school doing finance and minoring in CS. I'm afraid no one will hire me :(
