My Golf Swing...

Originally posted by: govtcheez75
I've recently had the major case of the shanks, so I've had to completely revamp my swing. I think I'm finally getting back to normal and shot 78 last week, first sub-80 round in a while. I can finally hit my long irons (3,4,5) with some consistency.

Anyone know enough to critique my swing? I know of a few things I need to work on already...

There are maybe two or three people on this forum who I'd trust to analyze an already decent swing and give advice, and I'm not one of them. 😉

I am by no means an expert, and that is a very nice looking swing =)
The only thing that looked just a bit off to me was the take away, and possibly your right arm during that part of the swing. Overall I wish my swing looked like that 🙂

Your spine angle is all over the place. Work on that.

-edit-
Youre follow through and shoulder turn look good. You're a little stiff on your right leg (causing your spine angle problems).

Thanks for all the input.

actually, my spine angle is pretty constant throughout the swing. My friend who was holding the camera is a little jittery, but you can see from this attached picture sequence that it remains constant:

I should have put the camera on a tri-pod. 🙂

Post this question and video on the the GolfWRX.com forums. Lots of good players there that can help you with anything golf related.

Your mechanics look pretty good, you just need to work on tempo and balance. The side video shows that your head moves up and down through the swing, which tells me your over swinging a bit. And your stance looks too wide, likely your attempt to stabalize the lack of balance from overswinging

I recommend praticing 3/4 shots and focus on keeping your head really still throughout the swing and not let your momentum drive your head infront of the ball at impact. It really helps to have someone stand in front of you and rest the grip of a club on top your head while you swing so you can get a good feel for when your head is bobbing up and down.

And your tempo looks too fast on the takeaway and the transition at the top of your backswing looks strained

If you could keep your head/angle the same as your setup you would be throwing darts at the green. Notice where your head is in that sequence.

It's always neat to see videos of your own swing. I like to take a camera/tripod out to the range. My comments on spine angle were just from watching a few times.
