I agree they have the worst (wireless) customer service on the planet.
They act like they are doing you a favor by even working there, not to mension you have to take an ebonics course to even understand them. How do they hire these people?

I am now completely free of Verizon!

I switched to MCI for my cell phone and now my local phone service is through my cable (AT&T). I'm able to have cable TV, cable modem, and local phone all through AT&T for a very good price (not sure I like AT&T but I have no choice for cable).

I couldn't stand Verizon! They s*ck!

Jason

You said it! Wireless services requiring 2 year commitments just suck! I signed up with PacBell and well, they're not the greatest either when it comes to wireless service but at least I don't have to be stuck with them for 2 friggin' years. 😀

rossman: QWest is one of verizons major backbones. They do half of verizons frame relay.
So, 😉

<< If you have poor Verizon service its probably because you have a gay Samsung phone that just sucks ass or one of Nokia's new PCS phones, which they have not made before which is why there were never any Nokia phones for Sprint. >>

I use a Samsung SCH-8500 dualband phone and it's been nothing but a great phone. I'm connected on Sprint PCS (as mentioned above) in the Phoenix, AZ area. I very rarely get dropped calls. Funny that you mention Sprint never carrying Nokias. I beg to differ. They used to carry 5100 and 6100 series Nokias over the last couple of years. They were recently dropped from their product lineups though, mainly due to the fact that there isn't a SINGLE American model Nokia phone capable of wireless web (a key feature that Sprint likes to sell their product on).

But with all said about Nokia, I myself am a bit disappointed by their current offerings. The trendy new 8200 series phones look neat (and they're TINY) but they are consistently poor performers with signal reception (not quite as bad as the pricey silver 8600s they used to make, but still not pretty bad). This is mainly attributed to its "antenna-less" design, which instead opts for an internal signal receiver/transmitter. It's really too bad, because Nokia makes a solid, reliable product. The 5190 I used to have with Voicestream was built like a tank.....it survived several drops on concrete and pavement. Something tells me that my new Samsung is just a bit more delicate.

AMD Junkie heck, you use it currently don't you? You should know if it's bad or not. Be thankful that you aren't here venting with us. I haven't even gotten the service yet and I'm venting...

After reading the posts in this thread, I suppose I should consider myself lucky. I don't have DSL with Verizon (or with anyone else) since we live in the 'boonies' where DSL hasn't even been invented yet... :|

However, I DO have Verizon Wireless and have never had any semblance of a problem with it. I have the Family Plan set up with a phone for myself and one for my wife, which gives us free unlimited calls between phones, and we make extensive use of this feature (last month we totaled about 800 minutes of free use.. 🙂) and the calls are even still free when I am 1000 miles away from her. I have NO long-term contract with them (6 months is plenty short enough to be able to change if I want to) and have been very pleased with the service I have received, and the pricing is very competitive.

Also, the main reason I chose Verizon over all other companies I tried (and I have tried many) is that their coverage area is MUCH larger than any other wireless company in the western US. For example, my family owns a cabin which is at least 200 miles from the nearest city, and yet I can still use my phone there with a full digital signal whereas NONE of the other services I tried were even able to provide a signal of any kind. I have only once had a dropped call, and that was because I walked into the middle of our insulated, grounded, sealed server room where the interference from the 12 inch cement walls and all of those electronics scrambled the signal. No matter where I have gone throughout the US I have yet to find a place where I can't get a signal.

I'm sorry that so many of you are having trouble, but I just wanted to put in my $.02 that their service is most definitely not ALL bad, especially in Northern Utah... 🙂

<< Dammit, that's my DSL provider! Please tell me the DSL in the Tampa area isn't bad. >>

AMD Junkie,

Did you take my advice and go with the Westell external modem?

reitz you talking about the Westell Wirespeed? I just ordered it from some guy in the for sale/trade forum! $89 shipped for a new one! If it comes through, I think it'd be an awesome deal, just sent my money order today...

I am also, in the middle of a bone with Verizon DSL, and I don't even have them as my ISP!!!

After two years with an independent ISP, I decided to change because, believe it or not, they raised my price.

So the lady said she was going to contact Verizon to get me disconnected in order for my new ISP to get me connected again.

It turns out that Verizon took 10 days to disconnect me, and another 17 days to reconnect me!!!

Mind you I don't know what's involved in this transaction, but it seems to me that 1 guy could do the whole thing in 30 minutes, instead of the 4 weeks they are requiring. After all my phone line hasn't changed places and no one needs to come over for a modem or line modification.

In another note, for those with slow DSL lines, my old ISP was giving me 110% of the promised speed. Mind you that my line still goes through Verizon, the difference is that; from Verizon to the net the path went trough my ISP, which was a lot emptier then Verizon's path to the net.

One thing is for sure, if I had a good alternative to Verizon I'd be using it.

dcdomain,

Yep, that's the only worthwhile modem to use with the former Bell Atlantic's DSL service. The Speedstreams are just crap. FYI, you got yourself one heck of a deal, considering that most ISP's charge $275 for the same peice of equipment. If you deal falls through, though, email me and I'll sell you my used Westell.

WoundedWallet,

My company partners with another phone company north of Pittsburgh, and most new DSL orders are up and running in fewer than 5 business days. It usually takes one business day to complete an ISP switch with that phone company. You are correct in assuming that Verizon is unnecessarily dragging it out.

I had a few problems with the installation of my Verizon DSL, which had to be escalated twice within Verizon, and took a week to fix. I just had a Northpoint inside wiring tech leave after hooking up my new DSL service, and he ran into the exact same problems. 20 minutes on the phone with someone at Northpoint was all it took, and I'm up and running.

Verizon is pathetic.
