My God, I never want to go through that again.......

I just bought a Quantum Fireball LM Plus hard drive, and it crashed my PC. I could not get my PC to run for two days. It does not like my IBM drive, or the Turtle Beach Montego II sound card. It is a great deal for about $110.00, but I will stick with IBM and Maxtor from now on.

Has anybody else had problems with this 30 gig Fireball LM Plus drive?

If you ordered one, just have plenty of alcohol on hand.

The hard drive crashed your PC? um, what do you mean? Did you get a 'bad' hard drive? Did you screw up?

IMHO quantum are at least as good as WD and I'm not even going to start on IBM...

I had my IBM drive set to Master on my Ultra 66 channel. I set the Quantum up as a slave on the same channel.

I booted up the PC, and bam, crash galore. I then restarted it, and it would not boot all the way into Windows.

I then proceeded to move it onto its own Ultra 66 channel....no go.

I tried to make it a Master on the normal IDE connection...no go.

I then put the IBM and Quantum on the same channel again and took out the sound card....and first boot in two days!

BTW it is very loud isn't it!😀

They might be a good drive, but I never had any problems with IBM or Maxtor. Well they will soon be Maxtor's won't they.

Just checking to see if anybody else had hick-ups.

Hehehe.......Hi antiABIT.

Did I tell you that I've got the same problem that my IBM got wiped out too? Enjoy the drive man. 😉. I'm persoanlly using the same config as you too.

I did the jumpers and the BIOS settings, I tried to reinstall windows and it would go through the whole setup of Win98SE, and then it would crash on the final reboot going into windows. The sound card and the hard drive were somehow corupting the Windows install of the IDE conroller drivers. There must be some kind of conflict between the two.

I took out the sound card now, and all is great with the Quantum hard drive, IBM drive, and Windows.

All I know is it was really ticking me off trying to figure out why it was hanging on the final reboot after setup.

I got the drive wanting the extra space to store my MPEG-2 camcorder footage, and thought it was going to be easy after having IBM and Maxtor hard drives in the past, but it did not want to help me out! 🙂

It is a good drive now that I have it working!

I've got a Maxtor 27.2 gig 7200 rpm drive and a IBM 15 gig 75GXP. All on an Abit KT7. Runs great. I have my drives set for cable select, not master or slave. On the UDMA66 cable it determines which is master or slave anyway. It flys, and the IBM is the fastest, quetest drive I have seen and was a good price to boot.

I had the identical problem when I took my quantum from the IDE channel and tried it on the ATA66 card. Im not sure if you have a promise card, but this is a know issue with the CARD, not the drive. It appears as if the drive is just fine from your last post. I dont mind the sound of a hard drive crunching, especially for 85$/30gb.
