Actually, an email (if it was hooked up to the 'net) would be helpful if it had the DNS of the ISP.

DUDE, if you "handled the security yourself", you're set.

Is this about stealing cars in LA or is it about how you are foiling someone's plan to unlock your underage nudie pics ?

Laptops/purses/other valuables should never be left in a car unattended, visible or otherwise.

That got taken care of immediately. Unfortunately there is next to no chance of the electronics still being present if a recovery is made, which is the important part here.

How strong was the encryption?

However the hell strong NTFS encryption is. It's the boobytrapped entry systems that provide the data security. Logon as administrator (Which is common practice if you reset the password, since it gives you access to everything), it drops an email to me, deletes all files in marked sensitive areas, and infects the machine with a bajillion different virii ranging from spybot to some obscure old stuff.

The wonders of a batch file...

uh huh, how is it going to "drop" you an email if it's not hooked up to the internet?

Uh, it doesn't? Isn't that a simple concept? No connection = no message? Future hardware with onboard WiFi will handle that better.

hey if you encrypted your rental car like you did the laptop, nothing would have ever happened!

Even if you can leave stuff in your car "where you come from" it doesn't mean that insurance anywhere will give a rat's ass when you tell them items that didn't need to be in the car were stolen.

Common sense.

And way to peg this one on dead Edna, classy.

LMAO. Your nerdliness and false sense of self importance evident in your posts has been amusing in the past, but this takes the cake. Thanks for the laugh, kid.

Of value to anybody? Nothing.

Just sentimental stuff. Sentimental stuff that I don't want coming back to bite me in the ass in my future career as a politician. Of course, I think they'd find more interesting stuff with a search on ATOT. True incriminating stuff, like my plans for world domination, certainly doesn't get offloaded onto my girlfriend - I keep her out of my transgressions. Yes - I may be full of myself, but I know that if I go down, there's no reason to take her with me.

By the way, they found the car (And thief. It WAS a Mexican!), sans laptop. All her clothes were still there (My wallet praises the lord), as was the camera. Figures the one USELESS item was taken. Her name was carved into the bottom, so they're gonna take a trip around to all the pawn shops before they fly back tommorrow, just in case.
