My girlfriend was just rear-ended by a cop.

I just get a call from my gf saying a cop just crashed into the back of her car. She just bought the car last year! So now she's all stressed out. She's ok, and apparently the back of her car is jacked. So she's on her way over my house. I have got to see this damage.

Have her make sure another officer responds to take the report. The officer involved in the crash should not write it. That's probably department policy, but she should make sure this actually happens.

Yea, she said another cop came and wrote it up.

"Haha" in advance to all of the "rear-ended" jokes.

Good advice for sure

In some areas you cannot sue the city/state government. Me thinks this one will require a lawyer.

Why would she need to sue? The city's insurance will surely pick up the tab on this one if, in fact, she was rear ended.

she could sue for police harrasment?...

just claim he nudged her gently a few times, then went straight up her rear to really get her attention....LOL

Is the back of her shirt sticky and wet? That can happen sometimes when the offender rams into you from behind, then pulls back out suddenly for no apparent reason.

Make sure to politely request a copy of the tape and POST IT
She won't be able to get it unless the case goes to court, and even then she'll have to wait until discovery to obtain it.

In-car recordings are for evidentiary purposes, not for public consumption. Getting access to an in-car tape is not the same as getting a copy of a police report.
