it's fine is she goes to sleep. that's an old myth. things you need to watch for are dizziness, blurred vision/double vision, nausea/vomiting, unsteady gate, extreme headaches, slurred/troubled speach, trouble using left/right limbs, numbness/tingling to left/right side, paralysis to left/right side. These are only in extreme cases where there might be a head bleed. I'm sure she'll be fine from what you've said. Nausea/vomiting is common after concussions. Not necessarily anything to worry about.

my friend was in fight, he had a concussion and it wasnt checked out, and a week later he died to some brain injuries. you should go get her checked out just to be safe.

sounds like your friend had something other than a concussion. You don't die from a concussion.

You might want to keep the whole 'I was wrestling with her and she bumped her head' to yourselves. Take her to the emergency room and say she slipped or something.

I know that if you're in Florida, and you call an ambulance for a girl that you injure accidentally, they will take you to jail for a night and arrest you for domestic battery. Believe me, I know. It does not matter whether she also says it was an accident or not.

Let her drink some water and don't let her go to sleep. I'd definately take her to the ER so they can make sure no brain damage has occured. The longer you wait the most messed up things can become if she does have an injury that needs to be taken cared of.

I suppose I will give the best advice:

Keep her quietly laying down with head and shoulders slightly elevated. Do not give her any stimulants. Sedatives are generally contraindicated. Cool applications to head and neck are soothing. Maintain suitable temperature. If there is any alteration in condition, such as bleeding or change in pupil size or reaction, take her to the hospital.

Obviously I'm not going to load her into a car and drive all the way to the hospital if all she needs is rest but I don't know what to do! I got her an ice pack and she said she isn't supposed to sleep... Any more?

Your girlfriend needs to be evaluated by a physician. PROMPTLY!! Get her to the ER. She needs to be examined, observed and probably earned herself a head CT scan.

Sounds like your gf has a concussion alright. Of course, it may be a lot more severe, such as a epidural or subdural hematoma. Definitely watch for mental status changes and other neurologic deficits.

An internet tech forum isn't the best place to go for medical advice. In the future, call the local hospital and ask for the nurse hotline. Most hospitals usually have a nurse staffing a hotline.

It's been over 3 hours since Keego's last post. Let's hope that he's doing the right thing and his girlfriend is being evaluated by a medical professional right now.

I was waiting to see if he would log on and see my previous post...but I guess not. Off to bed I go!

This is a female we're talking about here, remember? I think mental status changes and neuroligic deficits are par for the course for them. :)

Either he took her to hospital or he's busy digging a hole in the woods somewhere... :Q

He still hasn't learned to skate with his head up after 7 concussions. He's a retard in every sense of the word. I think Jason Doig did him a favor when he gave him his 8th.

I'd like to know what happened. This could potentially have been very nasty.

And congrats to iliopsoas, who was the only person to give the correct advice.

While not all people with a head injury need to see a doctor or health profession. I would suggest that anyone knocked unconscious should be checked. Vomiting more than once or twice, severe headache, disorientation/confusion lasting more than a few minutes needs prompt assessment. Worsening confusion, drowsiness, loss of use of an arm/leg, or clumsiness or slurring of speech need immediate assessment (i.e. 911).

All people with a non-trivial head injury should be supervised by a responsible adult for 24 hours, who should make sure that they are not developing any of the above problems. Don't worry about letting them sleep, you could always just give them a nudge and see if they respond appropriately - or wake them occasionally to make sure that they come round easily.

Ok here's your update guys!
To everyone who called me an idiot: you've never been in a situation where a woman doesn't want you to do something, have you?

After an hour, she was ok, she still had a headache but no bleeding, no vomiting, no nothing. She still was dizzy so I kept watch over her, checked on her at 10p, 12p, 1am, and randomly throughout the night. She woke up this morning and feels fine.

Last night, she was always aware of her surroundings, always coherent, and steady on her feet (but she was tired!)

I'm glad she's ok, but next time be aware that head injuries are nothing to fool with. When my husband got one, the hospital gave me instructions that night to wake him every two to three hours to make sure everything was ok.

This still does NOT justify your course of actions. Instead of dicking around on the internet, you should have contacted the local hospital.

Glad things turned out ok for your gf, in spite of you.
