My GF8800GTS is capped at 75 fps

My new 8800GTS's framerate seems maxed out at 75 f/s, in every single game. For instance, if I get 75 fps @ 1600x1200 and I lower all details and res at 800x600, it still won't go any higher. How can I unlock higher framerates? I tried nTune but could find an option to turn it off.

Thanks!

Try turning vsync off.

i am not sure what would cap at 100fps but if i was you turn vsync back on. going over 60fps is only for benchmarks and with it off you can see vertical tears in the screen, it is usually worse with LCD too.

What game are you playing?

Also, why worry?

100fps is more than enough at the resolution you play at.

It was only for benchmarking purposes.
100 fps seems to be game-related, was only in one game...
170fps in Company Of Heroes 1600x1200 4XFSAA 8XAA :D

Thanks for the help!

I think that having a constant ~100fps framerate would be better than just try to get 160+FPS, and having larger flucuations of framerate...

Ummm keep V-Sync on dude.

Your monitor has a certain refresh rate, and the higher the better, but you should have at least something of 75mhz.

It doesn't matter if your framerate is 200 or 300 when your refresh rate is low! The monitor won't be able to display it and you will see slight choppyness (or tearing) during sudden movements, especially in older game engines like Quake 3.

When you keep vsync on, it caps it to the max refresh rate your monitor can display.

SO KEEP IT ON. Unless you want to be just mentally satisfied that you are getting mega frames, when in actuality you on screen result is far worse.
