I was asked by a doctor that works with my wife what I thought of MacBook Air. I told him that he could get a lot more laptop for the money. He laughed and said, "I don't care what it costs..."

Unless you're like that guy and are looking for a way to waste money, don't invest in it. While they do have good hardware, it's not a practical way to spend money on mobile computing.

If this chick is so fat, she'd be better served carrying around a 10-lb desktop replacement.

Call it excercise. :p

This. And instead of a buying a charger, install a hand crank or treadmill to power it so your fat gf will lose weight while surfing the web for recipes, or whatever fat people do on the internet.

some cheap people on here lol

My exact thoughts.

I bought my first MBP with the intention to put Windows 7 on it. That became an afterthought and I just dread everytime I use Windows now. I would have totally jumped the ship if I didnt love my games so much.

She doesn't play any games probably, but the MBA is almost certainly to have slower GPU than the Dell XPS notebook. The one thing she will get though is better battery life :)

OSX is kinda blah, but whatever. It's shiny. I like the new MBA display, it's very crisp, good panel I guess.

Or maybe he doesn't want to deal with some of the Window's craziness? Spyware, viruses, update drivers, lock-ups, 3 year up grades?

I don't own a Mac, but I'm thinking of getting an iMac. Everyone I know that has a Mac loves them, but they could just be obsessive and not willing to say the $1500 they spent was a mistake.

Just tell her to wait.

The manufacturers have already come out and said it wouldn't be possible to make for less than $1000. People say Apple is overpriced, but when other manufacturers are challenged to make a similar laptop they can't make it for less.

In my experience, women tend to remember things like you not getting them what they want, buy her one and sell the Dell to help cover the expense.

It's only a few $, if it was her asking for a million dollar house or an AMG Mercedes, she's not asking for something unreasonable.

<---on my 2nd MBA, they're great, and the UltraBooks are far from a done deal, remember how Intel hobbled netbooks? Look for the same from them with UltraBooks.

Hell, score her a refurbished one from the Apple store online, they're a decent deal. Apple refurbs rock.

That's a decent idea and some good points. I'd be surprised if there were many refurb current-gen MBA's out yet though, they're fairly new. The new one is a massive upgrade over the old C2D-based model.
