My GF keeps asking for my iPod as a gift for her birthday...

I just bought a 5G iPod and I have a 3G left over from an RMA (battery went loco).

My GF's birthday is in 2 weeks and she has repeatedly asked for the iPod. We've only been dating a month. I like the girl, but she's constantly asking for stuff. She asks for a lift home from work almost every day, and whenever we go out she asks me to buy her stuff whether it be food or something at the store we're in.

My question is: is this dump-worthy? She has no money at the moment and I pay for just about everything. It's only money, but she comes across as greedy and I'm concerned that if I were ever with her long term she would milk me dry.

Also, how much is a 10GB 3G iPod worth in absolute new/mint condition? 😀

LOL a '94 Saturn.

I do OK tho; I'm an architect. I just drive the Saturn cuz it was my graduation present, my mom gave it to me, and it runs great. 🙂

I think that's too big of a gift to ask for, especially just after a month of dating.

What if I make it a birthday/xmas combo present? She commutes 2 hours to work; I feel bad for her and I can see why she would want one.

I was unemployed and broke when I met her by the way.

agreed.. i think it's a bit pushy for a girl you've been going out with for a month to be asking you for an ipod for her birthday... call me cheap but i probably wouldn't drop more than fifty bucks if she was lucky.

Whats the average starting wage for an architect. I was considering this career change

go on ebay and look for ipod batteries of that model. give her that one.
if she seems greedy, here's a bit of advice: all girls all initially. it's their way of testing if you are willing to give things up for them. most often the test is about money. welcome ot manhood  an ipod does seem too much, though... get her a nice cheap walmart-brand mp3-player instead 🙂

It depends. Usually 30K. I'm making considerably more than that and I've been at it for almost 4 years. We make around what engineers make, give or take. If you're really good and become famous you can make millions.

What are you doing now for a living?

Honestly, many architects are unhappy with how little they make. They want to make as much as doctors, but usually don't come close. 🙂

She's expressed an interest in an ipod that you have that you are no longer using? And you consider this gold-digging? Maybe she's being thoughtful in asking for something that you won't have to spend money on.

On the other hand, personally I find it kind of cheesy to ask for anything for your birthday. If someone gives you a gift that you want but didn't ask for, that's being thoughtful, but if you ask for something for your birthday and get it, that devalues the gift.

I work in construction now, so I already know more than the typical architect 😉 From what I understand, architects in the USA are treated like sh!t......lower than general labourer. But I live just outside Toronto...in Burlington, so thats not an issue.

That's a bit too much that she's asking for IMO. You're not comfortable with this now, any reason you feel you might be comfortable with it years down the road?

Let her know NOW.

here is the deal the more you give her the more she will ask for

when is her bday?

you have until then to decide if you need to dump her or buy her the ipod..until then make sure you get as much as you can from her as well...since she is broke im thinking sex...any kind you want and lots of it make that be the law you get what you want and then she will get what she wants...

but i dont see this as being a prudent long term relationship kind of thing,... i imagine she is broke for a reason (not good with money...hers or yours)
