A bunch was her CPA exam.
Then there were ads to sell my car.
Some other necessary things to.

I'd say half of it was unavoidable.

No cash towards the food, We just go to Super Walmart a couple times a month and spend $125-150.

You already plan to dump the car so that will help a bit. Other than that it looks like you'll have to gut it out until the debts are paid. Consider putting whatever savings you have from the car toward the CC bill to pay that down as fast as possible.

That was my plan. Between the car payment and insurance I'll be saving $650-700 a month. That can go towards paying stuff off.

141 for internet/voip/basic cable? Isn't that a bit high? If you aren't running a server or anything, you really only need minimal internet. I know SBC has a deal for phone service/DSL/satelliteTV for $90. I know you have cell phones already, but just giving you an idea of how much you can save.

What I said still stands. I would say you could still save at least $50 on food. $500 for cash witdrawals and misc expenditures still seem way overboard. I don't know where it goes exactly, but you should analyze it and if necessary adjust your life style, stop buying fast food and coffe at starbucks. $141 for cable/inet/voip is also too much. I don't know why basic cable is so important to you, but can't you dump it and use airwaves? Here in Chicago suburbs we get more channels on air than on basic cable :\ Potentially if you don't use your voip that much you could get dsl/pots for $50-70 if it's available in your area (don't know if it is). Concerning cars, accelerate slowly and ride at constant speed/use cruise control. My dad is a heavy footer and he can get additional 50-80 miles on a full tank of gas just by using cruise control.

It would be a good idea to see a CFP. They can help you plan your finances better and prepare for the future.

What exactly can they point out that I don't know? I'm not being sarcastic, its an honest question.

What a financial planner can do for you is basically go through all financial related aspects of your life and create a blueprint for you to follow. Planning on getting married? Buying a house, a car, etc? Retirement plans? What kind of insurance do you need? Taxes, etc.

So it's not just things like debt, but really covers what you want to do and how to achieve it. Not all CFPs are the same, pretty much everyone is a little different. Some are more of money managers, others focus on planning, etc. They can definitly help.

Your 300 minute basic cell plan isn't worth 72 bucks. You could get more minutes than that using a pre-paid phone. Do you really use all 300 minutes each and every month?

Ignore the people who say to cancel your renter's insurance. They don't know what they're talking about.

It could be high. That's about what my dad pays for Time Warner.

We usually use pretty close to it. We'd go over if it weren't for in-network calling.

I think they get 300 mins each and I'm pretty sure they get free nights and weekends.
You won't get that with pre-paid.

Why the hell are you spending that much on car payments? Especially if the two of you only pull in 52K combined. That?s just irresponsible... Get vehicles that you can afford.

I have to buy a car pretty soon. The better is going to die and I'm cringing at paying just 300 lol.

It's $5200 a month (net). It's closer to $90k gross.

How do I go about finding a reputable one? I'm afraid to just open the phone book under "F".

A fool and his money are so easily parted. Really so true after reading this thread. Do you really need advice? just use some common sense.

Why don't you just give up? Don't get me wrong, I am impressed you are trying your hand at this whole adult thing but you post a new finance related thread (car, house, mortgage, selling car, etc) every week it seems. Take your own advice, and go home to mommy and daddy.

That's the difficult part, referrals from clients are common. For starters I'd make sure they are a CFP, this ensures a higher level of education. (you don't need to be a cfp to be a financial planner) Also make sure they are a Registered Investment Advisor, as I believe that's required by the SEC and is a felony to claim CFP status but not be an RIA as well.

There's also the CFP website. which has more info.

Just my take on it but:

Car Payments: $1030--One or both of you are driving a vehicle that you shouldn't be driving. If you didn't have enough to put down on it to get the payments lower you were buying over you head.

Misc. Purchases: $356--This was probably mostly money wasted.

Restaurants: $118--You should be eating at home. Much more cost effective.

Just my .02 worth, which isn't much.

Cut down on having a life. Most of us don't have to worry about maintaining a life so we're experts by design. :D

Most of it is bills. Other than the cars there is not much frivolous spending.
