This has appeared twice so far...

This one i've seen about 3-4 times so far...

I've getting completely random lockups every 10 secs, 3 mins, 10 mins, 20 mins , 1 hour..etc...completely random...in games (Tribes, mohaa), word, browsing..dvd...while booting up before the cpu speed/memory even shows up...even IN THE BIOS....and while windows 2k/98 is actually loading...ANYTIME ANYWHERE...for about 3 days now...EVERYTHING WAS FINE BEFORE THEN...no hardware changes made....

Sometimes at boot..when the card is reading its memory (going from 0k-32k)...it counts up to 99k ..keeps rolling...cant explain it...but basically goes towards infinity....SO I'm ASSUMING THE PROBLEM IS MEMORY/READ/WRITE related on the card itself?

other times (occuring A LOT as in 1/5 boots since 3 days ago) ...these is NO signal getting to the monitor...i hear cpu/harddrive/Cd's spin up and just sit there...NO SIGNAL...

anyone experienced similar probs (from pics) ? its NOT heat related ...fan runs nice and smooth...both cpu and geforce2. Case is open...NOTHING is hot...barely even warm. All cables are neat and plugged in right..all cards plugged in right...no visible probs/obstructions...

note ..the lockups/wierd displays have appeared on their own for seamingly NO reason...

Could it be the AGP port on the Asus a7v?

Thanks for any good/bad news...

UPDATE: The card works PERFECT in OTHER systems..i've tried two systems (one tbird 850 and one tbird 900).
My system works PERFECT with OTHER cards..ive tried two cards (Matrox g200 AGP and Geforce256 AGP).

Other things i've tried: switched generic 300w powersupply with another. disconnected CDROM/Cd burner, leaving only 1 HD attached. and yes i did reformat/fresh install.

Makes no sense huh?

My first step would be to try to determine if the card is indeed defective.

Pull the card and try it on a different PC. Are the problems reproducible?

Because you are getting lockups everywhere, including the BIOS, it must be a hardware issue. Since you have ruled out the video card, I would look elsewhere. You might want to try another video card in this system. Also, try running the system with only the essential components (i.e., CPU, MB, RAM, HD. If either of these options do not fix the problem, then either your processor, motherboard, or RAM is bad. Try swapping out the RAM first, since that is the easiest, but I'm thinking that your motherboard is bad. You can try a BIOS update, but I'm not sure whether that is the best idea, since the computer is locking up at random times, and could very well lock up during a BIOS flash. Then your motherboard will be surely dead. 😉 Hope this helps.

Yep trying another video card is a good idea by Rkonster,if your board allows AGP voltage adjustment try bumpimg it up a little, also some bios tweaks like disable all video shadowing, disable system bios cacheable, you can also disable fastwrites as well.
