Deinterlaceing:

Even though the deinterlacing performance of the GT 430 looks pretty good, a closer look reveals that it is not as effective as AMD's vector adaptive deinterlacing strategy.

Denoising:

I personally find AMD's denoising implementation (in the 6570) to be better.

DXVA:

The 6570 is the hands down winner in this section. It is able to carry out all the post processing steps even when it is forced to process very stressful video streams.

It goes on line this... just get a 6570 and be done with it.

If all you want is to be able to watch movies, and use your pc as a HTPC,
with all the eyecandy on (post processing effects ect) ect.

Some odd suggestions here... I am guessing hes looking for a replacement as fast as a 9800GT or better? Almost all the suggestions thus far are significantly slower than a 9800GT...just fyi.....

I no longer do any gaming but do some photo editing and watching some You Tube video.

In all likelyhood he doesnt need a more powerfull/expensive gpu than the recammendations.

He just wants to be able to watch movies on his pc.... not play games with it.

Youre right. My fault. I missed that sentence. In that case, the above recommendations are probably acceptable.

id suggest a GT 520, GT 430, or ATI 5570, or similar. In fact, a GT 430 or 5570 would still allow for some decent gaming.

It looks like hes actually looking for used, so in that case, whatever you can find on the forums is your best bet....

That 6570 is way more than he needs. Newegg has a GT 240 with a free game for $20(which I dont like recommending since ive had bad experience with it but...)

Tigerdirect has a galaxy gt 430 for $30AR with free shipping.... This is more than sufficient for not doing any gaming... Dont spend more than $20-$30 if you realy arnt going to be gaming.

I have a 8600GT that I replaced with the 9800GT. There was nothing wrong with this card. I did have a smaller monitor then. Should I reuse it or look to replace it?

None of what you've mentioned is remotely demanding - all you need is a cheap video card made in something like the past decade. If you have an 8600GT already, well, free is pretty cheap.

I agree... Might as well use it then. You can get any newer process card for $30 or less and it would more than sufficient for what youre doing.... I just bought a GT 430 recently for $30AR and even that is fast enough to still do some gaming on.

If you dont need any features of newer process cards, like HDMI output or anything, free is cheap....just use the 8600.

Honestly, you could just consider upgrading your CPU/Motherboard. The on-die graphics from AMD's and Intel's newest APUs are probably good enough for what you want to do. You could keep your HD, DVD/CD drive, PSU, and case. The rest you could get for a reasonable price and it would probably be a pretty decent upgrade.

If you wanted to attempt to revive the 9800GT you could try baking the card (Google it).

Really have nothing to lose if it's dying or dead and out of warranty. Worst case it doesn't work and you have to go out and buy another card like you were planning to anyway.
