Well, I bought the card from computer geeks because a Hercules GeForce 256 DDR DVI I had previously purchased was crashing my machine. The new card behaves the same way. Here are the details
My system:
P III 450 not overclocked
Soyo 6BA+III Mobo
128MB Mushkin PC133
256MB Viking PC 133
Generic NIC with Realtek chip
Antec 300W Power Supply
Generic 20X CD-ROM
Plextor 12/10/32 CD-RW
AGP currently with VisionTek GeForce 2 GTS 32MB DDR
Here is what happens...The computer runs fine when 2D graphics are used. Solid. Problem occurs when I try to play Quake III. The game will run fine for 2 seconds up to 15 or so minutes....then the image freezes and if there is a sound effect, the effect will go into a loop.
This occured with both the regular GeForce I have and the GeForce 2 GTS. This does not happen with the TNT2 I was peviously using.
I have tried different sound cards and omitting the sound card, but there is no effect with any of this activity.
Here are some other things I have noticed:
When my computer loses power...unplugged, etc. there is a checksum error at post and I have to reset the bios. This has happened before the vid problem, but maybe it is a contributing factor.
Other wierd thing is that durig the post, the auto detect of the IDE things reports my Plextor drive as being a "insert matrix code looking stuff here" So maybe the mobo is going bad.
I suspect the Power supply or the mobo.
Thanks for any help.
