My Future Summer Build.... Predictions?

I am planning to build a system this summer to take to college. I'm very excited, so I've already been keeping up on what's hot and new. I am interested in hearing your predictions (and suggestions) of what I might be looking forward to getting. I would like to build it sometime in July, and spend around $1500. I might pay a little more to get a good LCD monitor, so go ahead and post anything about any component at all.

I'm in the same position as you - going to college next year. I can't wait to get/build all the stuff for my college system, but I'm still not sure if I'll be saying "Dude, I got a Dell" around the month of August.

As for LCDs, make sure you get one w/a DVI connector, and make sure that your video card has a DVI output - as far as I know, you won't regret it.

Other than that, try just waiting till summer - there'll be a lot newer stuff then. $1500 should get you quite the system though.
 
I predict that you'll build a great system around the thoroughbred core or barton core (if you're lucky) athlon or Pentium 4 Northwood, then promptly slug yourself with a large fish when AMD's Hammer CPUs arrive with an incompatible PGA.
 
Thanks for the replies. I considered just getting a Dell, but I think this will be more fun, and I'll end up with a better system. I've already decided that if I get an LCD, I will go with DVI..... unless I find an amazing deal on AT.

Not until Q4 of this year. I wouldn't hold your breath for it.

My prediction is you will end up with a nice Throughoubread processor, 1 gig of DDR, 18" LCD, 2 x 120 gig HDDs, Geforce4 tiwhateverthehighestnumberis, etc....
