I thought I'd share this, because of how heartfelt it was written by my friend, and because I too, realize how much a pet can be a part of our lives and mourned at the time of their death.

They say a dog is man's best friend. This is so very true.

Dogs are wonderful animals. Faithful. loving. and their love is unconditional. if you are sick they try to take care of you. if you are sad, they come and try to cheer you up. if you are happy they want to share in your happiness.

I had such a wonderful little dog. His name was Isaiah. I got him in august of last year. He was just a little puppy. about 4 months old. He was being kept in such horrid conditions. and he was such a quiet little guy.

When I first took him home, he stayed at my moms for a bit while I was between apartments. I would go over before and after work every day. we would play outside for a long time. sometimes we would just sit in the grass and he would roll around while i pet his tummy or he would lay with his head on my arm and go to sleep in the grass.

As he got bigger we would play outside. I would let him out and he would run around like a maniac. we would play in the snow. he loved the snow and the rain. He was so happy outside.

He never got fetch. He was a golden keeper not a golden retriever. He would bring me a stick, i would throw it. He would go get it. look back at me with a look that said "Clearly you cant be trusted with the stick" and would go off in the other direction.

He loved going to the dog park with my friend and her dogs. Two of her dogs were his brothers. They would run through the woods on saturday and sunday morning and would have a ball. he would sleep the rest of the weekend.

Days when I was not having a good day, he was always there. HE would hop up on the couch and lay his head on my lap and just lay there. When he was tired, he would lull himself to sleep my taking my hand in his mouth and just keep it there like a pacifier. He did that since he was a puppy. In the pen when i went to pick him out, i put my hand in the fence and he did that then and looked so happy. that was what made me pick him

I remember a few days ago I wasnt feeling well. I had eaten something that did not agree with me. I was laying in bed being miserable. He walked in and dropped something next to me and then flopped down next to me, snuggling up close. He had brought me one of his raw hide chews I had gotten him a few days earlier.

Everyone who met him loved him. He liked to cause mayhem. He chewed up my carpet, ripped the stuffing out of a cushion, would steal my blankets and pillows. But he loved me. and that was unconditional. and He was my pup. I took care of him and he was all i had as far as family down here in Alabama since I moved.

Today we were outside playing. I had tried to get him to come in but he wanted to keep playing. I had gotten some steak for us a couple days ago and was going to make some for him as a treat. He and I would play this game where we would run back and forth and he would try to chase me. then he would run around me til he was tired and we would go in. he started running around. He ran past me with a big goofy smile on his face and then he got a little ways away and he collapsed. I thought he tripped... but then he didnt get up. and he started shaking....

I ran over and slid to him. I looked in his eyes. he was there. I kissed him on his nose and started petting him

he had a heart beat but it started to fade. I frantically called the vet and got the number to the er clinic. I knew he had gone already. but i sped there as fast as i could. begging God not to take him from me.

God Did not listen.

The vet said he had a massive aneurysm in his heart.

He went happy. Playing. running outside where he so loved to be. He loved the rain and it had been raining. He loved sticks. we had just played fetch. He loved to be pet. I had just pat him on his head and told him to go on and keep playing.

Isaiah Knott. A happy lil Golden Retriever. He brought a lot of love and happiness to me in the short time I had him in my life. He was my pet, he was my friend. Like all dogs, he was a part of my family and I will miss him very much

Isaiah Knott. April 2008 - May 2009

RIP little man. you will be missed more than words can say

Thanks for making my cry.

🙁

alas, me too, but... his writing was so inspiring and so emotional that i sank into it and felt his love for his dog and his sadness through it.

Poor little ah heck, and I am surprised of myself that I actually read all of that

The "l" in loving should be capitalized. So should the "a" in and. Everyone knows this.

are you serious? that was the last thing i cared about when i read his story.

Yea, you should probably just shut up for the remainder of this thread.

Sometimes things are better left un-mentioned, but by doing so you reveal a lot about yourself.

lol. Yes, I can see this being true if someone had an ugly baby or something, but a thread on the internet? No harm was done.

Beautifully written. It's amazing how much of an impression such a little creature can make on you in such a short period of time. 🙁

I had to put my dog to sleep one year ago, after 16.5 years together 🙁

I'm not reading this for fear of crying.
