I dunno if any of u heard of prosper.com, basically it's a site that lets people lend money and collect interest to other people. Well, I don't use the site but my friend put a listing up on there. I signed up today to give him an endorsement and also to put a bid on his loan request. Read his story on the listing and you'll know why:

Prosper.com Listing

Anyway if you click the link there I believe Prosper actually gives u $25 if you decide to bid on the loan. For the price of a tank of gas you could help someone out a lot.

Prosper is a horrible, horrible idea. There is a reason why these people can't money any other way, including creditcard. 29%? Yeah right, you'll never see that cash again.

Adverse selection FTL

sounds like a sad story but 29% interest rate? :Q Then again it wouldn't really matter if the rate was 1000%. That money is never getting repaid.

I don't see how you can say it's a terrible idea? It is similar to eBay or any number of other sites (such as real estate listings). No one is being forced to lend money, and you should know the risk involved before doing so anyways. Not only that but your reasoning of information asymmetry is stupid as that exists in every single market.

Of course this thread isn't really about discussing Prosper and its merits, so I'll just stop there.

I didn't know about prosper till my friend sent me a link to this. It's actually a good idea for getting a loan when your reason for needing the funds is something a bank would probably not consider, or if you are trying to help someone else out!

I looked around the site and it's mostly people asking for "need loan to consolidate my CCs" or for some other stupid reason. I don't think it's smart to use a loan to pay for loans...but in this situation, I think it's what prosper should be all about. I hope my friend gets the help he needs.

And to that ass Slew Foot who called this a scam...go f*ck urself. If you needed money for an operation on your heart, life or death, you'd try every option you could! Do you have a friend who would be willing to help you like that if you were in a similar situation?

haha, the irony here is that you are most likely a fat pig who will soon encounter severe health problems yourself. It is doubtful that you have friends who will assist you, considering what a douche bag you are...so I hope you "saved" up enough for when your time under the knife comes. :)

That's harsh, even for the internet...

If you're really that desperately in need for money don't make it a loan; ask for donations. There are ways to do that (i.e. Paypal).

Because everyone can afford health insurance right? It's also nice that insurance companies cover all procedures...they don't selectively audit how much to cover, if at all. Clearly, you have a keen understanding of how the world works and are qualified to issue advice about the choices people should be making.

I posted this for a simple reason - to look for someone who might be willing to help. If you're not then don't disrespect my friend with stupid comments.
