I'm tryin to help a friend, but i haven't been paying alot of attention to Intel as i'm an AMD fan. He currently has a an old PIII 500 and he wants to upgrade to a P4/i850/RDRAM setup. Would he need a new PSU and case? Anything else he should take into consideration? thanx in advance

Most likely he will need a P4 compatible case and power supply. Other than that he can keep all this other cards. Oh yea, he needs a p4 chip and a pair of Rdrams.😉

how do you know if a case is P4 compatible? and what motherboard would you suggest? I was thinking Abit TH7-II or P4T-E. suggestion, comments?

I really like the P4T-E. But that may be just personal preference.

Both of those boards will fit in a standard ATX case. He will need to upgrade his power supply, though.

Yep, my P4T-E fits right into my case that used to house a Abit KG7 AMD board. As a matter of fact, the mounts were EXACTLY were they needed to be for my new P4 mobo. 🙂 All you'll need is a P4 (2.03) PSU...and of course the memory and chip. 😉 Oh, and get the P4T-E it FREAKIN' ROCKS! You can't go wong with it. Just a word of caution. before you put this P4 together READ THE MANUAL! This P4 set up is the craziest set up I've ever done. It's not hard to set up, it is just different. And one last thing, remember that teh i850 is dual channel RDRAM so you'll have to purchase your memory in pairs.

P.S. Make sure you get a 478pin P4 too. Don't get a 423pin P4 and expect it to fit in that board. 😉
