My friend, the CPU killer

A friend of mine is getting notorious around here for killing socket A CPUs.

#1 Duron 800. Years ago, while removing a HSF. He pushed the HSF down and twisted it for removal. The HSF was removed, as well as bits of the CPU core.

#2 Athlon 1200. Discovered Arctic Silver 2 and used a huge glop of it on the CPU. Dead without a scratch on it.

#3 Duron 1000. Guess he was feeling nostalgic last night. I had a Duron 1000 sitting around collecting dust. Still had the pencil marks on the L1. This time he crunched the core during installation of his Volcano 11 in a tiny mATX case where there was no room for manouvering a screwdriver around the HSF. Largest piece of the core was the length of one side of the core, a bit thicker than a hair and dark and shiny.

I'd be laughing more at him except it was my CPU and he doesn't want to own up to it.

I need to think of a way to punish him while not pissing him off too much. Probably next time we trade (we're prolific parts traders with each other) I'll make sure I make out on the deal.

Stop trading parts with him. If he asks why, tell him he's too rough with delicate components and you don't want a damaged or partially damanged part.

Uh... charge him or make him owe you it's value in credit in a trade. Seems pretty intuitive.

Ok... This is what you do. Get 2 roach clips and solder a wire onto each clip, go to Radioshack and ask the sales guy for a resistor(or small elecrtical circuit board part). Put the clips on each side of the resistor. Go to your friends house. When he gets up from the pc and walks out the room unplug it and make sure the plug is hidden from view. Stick the 2 wires into the socket, trip the circuit breaker, and blow the resistor (to get that electrical burnt smell. When he comes back into the room look at him like a deer stuck in the headlights. Then get up without saying anything and leave. He'll trouble shoot for hours and not even check the plug. : )

Five dollars on ebay....

Yeah, I didn't make too huge a deal because it's chump change, but still it's irresponsible of him to break it and not own up to it. The Tbird 1.2 he killed was back when those were worth triple digits.
