A friend of mine is getting notorious around here for killing socket A CPUs.
#1 Duron 800. Years ago, while removing a HSF. He pushed the HSF down and twisted it for removal. The HSF was removed, as well as bits of the CPU core.
#2 Athlon 1200. Discovered Arctic Silver 2 and used a huge glop of it on the CPU. Dead without a scratch on it.
#3 Duron 1000. Guess he was feeling nostalgic last night. I had a Duron 1000 sitting around collecting dust. Still had the pencil marks on the L1. This time he crunched the core during installation of his Volcano 11 in a tiny mATX case where there was no room for manouvering a screwdriver around the HSF. Largest piece of the core was the length of one side of the core, a bit thicker than a hair and dark and shiny.
I'd be laughing more at him except it was my CPU and he doesn't want to own up to it.
I need to think of a way to punish him while not pissing him off too much. Probably next time we trade (we're prolific parts traders with each other) I'll make sure I make out on the deal.
