They have a lot in supply.

And it's great ram for his needs. 2.5 Cas at 1T is a good performance standard @ PC3200 speeds.

It'll work quite well. And this memory will be good to carry over to his next system. Of course if he wants to spend a bit more...

XP2000, what video card does he have ? XP2000 CPU seems abit slow for Doom 3, I might be wrong though.

I have an XP3200+ BArton and Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256 MB Video card, 512 MB of RAM and that game runs like shiet on my setup.

Might be my VC or RAM but I'm not sure.

You don't have quite enough GPU or system memory to run that game smoothly. It runs fine on my XP3000+ @ 2331mhz, 1024mb of the patriot RAM I linked above, and XFX 6600GT @ 550/1100 mhz.

I don't think it's his video card. I have the same VPU and Doom 3 runs just fine, even on High. His problem is the RAM - 512 is simply not enough.

if his system isn't dual channel it's also a good investment to get a single 1GB stick (which you can get just under $100 now). With two 512MB sticks you can't really upgrade -- it limits you to getting boards with 4 memory slots, and 4 x 512MB is a configuration many people will tell you to avoid anyway.

Since he has an XP 2000 system, he will probably be looking to upgrade to a Socket 939 system in about 6 months to a year, then he could just get another gig and be running 2GB dual channel. Just something to keep in mind.

OMG I just relized NokiaDude said that. Wow. You're usually pretty sharp...I can't believe you said that. I show 370 MB *total* ram use with Doom3 running. Your comp either must be all whored out to malewarez or you mispoke.

Don't get me wrong, doom 3 will run with 512mb RAM, but not without noticable hitches. I just upgraded from 3x256mb pc 2700 to 2x512 mb pc3200 and the hitches in my gaming have disappeared.

D3 will use the most amount of RAM possible. If you've got 512mb, it'll use 370mb. I've got 1GB and it uses upwards of 700mb. I've seen HL2 use upto 1.2GB of RAM.

1gb Corsair VS is definitely going to help. I recently upgraded from 512mb Geil to 1gb Corsair, huge improvement.

With the 512mb Geil, though, I could run Doom3 on High with AA and AF in the mid ranges at 68FPS constantly... havent had time to play D3 with the new memory though.

He should be fine, he'll love the upgrade!

Just wondering, what card is he using?

yeah i never realised that the 1 gb made so much difference, until after i pulled one of the 512's out, and the game would not run smoothly.

Athlon Xp Barton 2600+, 1 GB Corsair Valueselect, and BFG 6600GT OC runs beautifully at 1280x1024 High
