Just curious... what do you guys think of Volkswagon Karmann-Ghia's?

another pic

I think they're icky lookin, plus their are way under-powered
flat air-cooled 4, maybe 60hp 😛

anyways... what do you think?

the guy wanted $2300, he talked him down to $2100

here is the pic of his actual car, the other pics are examples (just wanted to know what everyone thinks of the model)

Pic here

EDIT:
I think it runs fine, not sure....
There's just so many other cars I'd prefer over that one 😛
I'm eyeing a 75 nova with a v8 350 right now.... I think it was $1500
there was a 65 impala for $1900 but I missed it :frown:
I am going to buy my own new car, in the past, the three cars I've had... have been hand-me-downs, cars on their last legs....
I'm hoping to find a car with a lot of life left in it

i think old vw's are cool cars.. those 1600 engines are just so damn reliable..it's like a toyota.. they're just so simple and easy to work on and nothing to break..

oh and so everyone knows, i'm generally biased against all foreign cars... I like detroit muscle 😛

Older cars are cool, especially things like this -> it doesnt have a weight problem and an oversize (and heavy) engine to compensate, which in turn ruines handling... unlike other cars I could mention *cough*.. 😉

I would like to have a nice Karmann Ghia with a 2.2L Type4 in it. 🙂

Hahahaha..... 60hp.. That's a good one... lol

It depends on the engine. What did the 1600s get up to stock? 45hp? More? lol..

36hp was pretty standard for the older slug bugs.. hehe..

Love them! Especially love the convertible version.
I'd prefer a Porsche 356, which is a very similar design.

I like em.

I have a type 3 squareback that I put about $3000 into the motor.

That same engine in a Ghia would be scary fast. (they are much lighter then my Type 3)

With a bit of time effort and $$$ your friend could make that car VERY fast, and they are cheap and easy to work on.

(Your friend need any advice on hot rodding it, have him give me a IM or Email..I was a VW Mech.)

Edit: Stock they ARE underpowered. I remember seeing a Ad for them when they were new. The narator is talking about how they were "Sports cars".........remember the type of ad that had a car drive through one of those paper wall's with stuff written on it?.....At the end of the Ad they had the Ghia drive up to the paper wall and it STOPPED the car dead in it's tracks....The narator then says....Though they may not be the most powerfull.....

wowzers!

i like it.

*kat. <-- go to my show, analyse how the sound flow, on the down low, f**k around, lay around.

Well, I'm the one that bought the car. I love it. So far zeruty is the only one to tell me it sucks

But how about a decent picture of one? link. Hopefully mine will look like that pretty soon.

For $2,100, I think I got a great deal on it. New engine, rally wheels, transmission & suspension. It runs great. Needs a little body work and a little paint, but other than that, it's beautiful. People stare when I drive by & girls wave.. I love it. 😀
