Just say no.

Its a drug, and as such you will get addicted. Your friend is already addicted...dont let him drag you down with him.

I know...I used to be a D2:LOD addict. 273 Days Dry.
~wnied~

P.S. I still slide the CD in the drive and meander in the chat forums for at least two hours to keep my 17 accounts.

and yes, Everquest is worse addiction than AToT, in most highend situations in everques the guilds treat it like a job, 40+ hrs needed every week of just raiding, let alone time to get more experience, etc that you need to stay up to date and "Uber"

most people level 60 + that have been playing for a while have 100-500 days played (you do the math as for how long EQ has been out, and how much of their life they have spent on there)

my question is, have you played before, and what level did you reach, and what level is your friend.... most people who dont advance past level 30 dont have issues with the game taking up their life, because once you hit the 40's you want to get to the end game, and that requires some SICK play time

Yeah I played before... several times! Basically every year I would play for a while. Highest I got was 37. I just got tired of killing crap, and would always go to different places looking for a new spot to level.

With the comments on Everquest I have to agree to stay away. It's crazy how much time people spend on Everquest. Do these people have jobs?

tired of killing crap, well that IS basically the game

that and quests, exploration, adventure etc

but the main reason people play it so much is to kill crap

once I was level 60 I killed thousands of undead skeletons with 7,000 hps each to get a bunch of AA points, which basically consists of sitting there and target, cast, attack on the one box, and target, slow, med on the other box...

its basically wasting as much time as you can, to kill crap over and over again, to get high in levels.

right now you can get up to 65 levels and like 600 aa, which could keep you busy 8hrs a day for months on end, and by that time they would have more expansions that keep you busy indefinitely

IMO it should only be used for social entertainment, if you start playing it like a game, and want to solve it, you soon realize that you cant play enough to solve it, and it goes on forever

My friends tried to get me into EQ also. I don't see the big deal. MUD was a bigger addiction. I just don't like the GUI-style of play compared with text-based mudding - sounds crazy, but I mudded for years. Maybe EQ2 will have better graphics to hold my attention...

And don't forget about the monthly fee on top of the game purchase price + expansions. I hate monthly recurring fees associated with playing games (whether you play or not).

With that said, check the bottom of my sig for EQ-related stuff.

Sounds a lot like Dark Age of Camelot. 90% of the game is:

1. kill target MOB

2. rinse and repeat

yeah EQ lost some players when DaoC came out

I also used to play on a Mud, Diku Mud version, Wisney Word II

it was definitely addicting, and the first time I played Everquest, I was like, damn this is gay, i want my text back, but after playing it again a few months later I got a kick out of it and kept going, it helped that I had a friend to start me out. He was a level 51 ranger when I started a level 1 paladin, i passed him up at level 54, and at one point I was level 62 with 65 AA and he was level 58 with 2 AA, and we actually played the same amount (well he has more days played than i do), but I was one of those "grind out experience" people trying to beat the never ending game somehow, and he just explored etc, both had our fun, but both wasted way too much time

i stopped playing even though my account is still active, takes way too much damn time and i have none atm

I played it for a while. I gave it up cause everyone twinks and its hard to find people that are your equals when you only have one charecter. The high end gameplay is far to time demanding. You have to join a guild and bow to their raid schedual. I wonder how its going... Anyone know if the sleeper is awake on all the servers? Or is still only awake on like 1 or 2. Last time I was on he was reached to but never woken...

I had a 62 Necro and a 60 mage. Good stuff...

I havent played in almost a year (well, i signed up again last september(last time they offered a month free) but only played for a day before I decided it wasnt good for me )

Hard...to...resist!!

Perhaps if i didnt sell my wizard I would go back and play..but making a new character and having to start as a newbie again just doesnt appeal to me.

I played the game for years but the highest level level I got a character to was 14. I don't like playing with people very much but I would have liked to play with my firends but none of them would buy it. :(

I used to play Asheron's Call, but it was mostly monotnous hack n slash. Kill monster x over and over again with few quests etc. Rampant cheating also.

i had a guild in the beta of that called Kill Self

we'd all have characters with the words kill self in the names and go up to the highest building and crater ourselves to death. masses of n00b bodies piled around a tower :)

I play, albeit not very much. I enjoy it. My first, and main character is a High Elf Paladin that just hit 50 last week. Lately i've been helping a friend make a new Enchanter, and have been exploring. Started going for some quest weapons recently, and I try to make it to as many raids as I can. I'm on 3 nights a week, maybe 2-3 hours each night, then maybe a couple hours on the weekend. Fun game for those that don't just jump on the leveling treadmill, lots of stuff to see and do!
