My friend got a ticket for selling a cigarette without checking ID.. any suggestion?

My friend works at a grocery store and got a ticket for not checking ID. He says the guy who was buying cigarette definetely look more than 25.. but oh well.

Anyway, he is called to go to court on May sometime but I was wondering if he should get lawyer involved instead of dealing by himself. Has anyone had similar experience or any suggestion? He has worked as a cashier for over 5 years and this is the first time he got caught like this. I wonder what I can do to help him.

is he going to get fired?

at least he didnt sell alcohol without checkign i heard that gets u fired and fined

Lawyers are good for some things you know.

Edit: always get a lawyer. Speeding whatever. you will not regret it.

Your friend broke it.

He gets a ticket.

What's hard to understand?

He understands that you stupid mofo. He didn't say (neither I) he doesn't want to go to court or anything. We are just looking for a suggestion for a best way to resolve this situation. If you got nothing productive to say, then just ignore the fvcking thread. :disgust:

Up here, they actually hire kids to go into variety stores and try and buy cigs.

If the kid comes out with a pack of cigs, the enforcement officer then goes in and tickets the clerk and fines the store! :Q

So, it's better go to get lawyer involved huh?

I'll put it to you this way. I know a guy😉 whos gotten about 30 tickets in his life and never had points, never went to court, and it costs him less than $300 a pop for each occurance. Yes, a lawyer is your friend when charged with a crime. Plus going down yourself and dealing with all the wait and scum pays for itself.

Yea.. that's what exactly happened I think. There wasn't any officer around when the kid bought the cigarette. Once he went outside after acquiring the cigarette, some normal dressed guy came and gave my friend a ticket for not checking the ID. (Turned out to be, the guy who bought the cigarette was only 17 years old..)

WTF? isn't it his own discretion? if your buddy thinks the guy looked over 25 then he shouldn't get in crap for this, PERIOD.

Exactly. The lawyer will bring this up and more🙂

Unless they have grey hair he should card them.

It is a pointless waste of time to card every person who attempts to purchase alcohol or tobacco. That is why most states only require you to card if they look younger than 27.

Lets say Clerk X makes 6.00 a hour. He has to check the IDs of all 200 people who attempt to purchase alochol or tobacco. Lets say each check adds 15 seconds of time. Lets also say he works 5 days a week. 1000 checks a week at 15 seconds a pop. That is 4.167 hours WASTED a week. Now lets say he works 48 weeks a year. 200 HOURS a year. That is 1200 dollars that is wasted by his employer. It would be much simpler to only card those under 27(who make up a bulk of the sales). Hell, we can be conservative and say under thirty only accounts for 50% of sells. That is 600 a year down the drain. Take an average store with 20 cashiers that work a shift daily. You are looking at lots of $$$.

I think the current policy is better and cheaper.

Nope has to be 27 for him to not be liable.

In Utah if the person is a minor it doesn't matter if they look 50. There is no legal immunity if they "look old". I would wager you are quite full of sh!t to say that there is in ANY state.
