I hear general anesthesia can play havoc on your heart if you have an undiagnosed heart condition. Is that true?

With General Anesthesia, there is always a risk. That is why they have anesthesiologists.

sorry for your loss. I had a friend die last week myself, and took it really hard. He was the sound guy at our church and I was also the sound guy, so we always were together in the sound room. Went for an operation, was almost ready to go home, then got a blood clot and died.

And to top it all off my neighbor was found dead in his house last night - he's been missing for 2 weeks. We were not really that close but it's still a shock.

wow, this thread is kinda weird for me. I'm 33, and in all my life, I have had the misfortune of having two close friends die. The weird part is, one of them, no shit, had a nickname of Iron Wood (no e)

Don't they also make the most $ out of all the specialties?

In Canada that would be Ophthalmology most likely, or some subspecialized Plastics.

Sorry for your loss, OP :(

Sorry for your loss.

Yeh, and they make you sign an informed consent about those risks. :(

So sorry to hear about your friend OP.

That sucks. I knew a guy who got critically ill two years ago after general anesthetic. He was of the unlucky few that the drugs used in it were not well compatible and he almost had liver failure. He lost a ton of weight and for a while it appeared that he had a very rare liver wasting disease, but he managed to ultimately recover to full health.

Thanks guys.

I still don't have a complete explanation of what happened yet.

He wanted to take a ride in my Mopar this spring.

Now he won't be able to.

I bought my first computer used from an electrical engineer, maybe in his mid-thirties. It was an ad in the paper. He'd built it himself from parts and I was a noob, although I'd taken a few computer classes. Before I brought this desktop home I spent ~2 hours talking to him, asking him a million questions about it. I used to call him up periodically (maybe every 6 months) and have a 1/2 hour conversation with him, pumping him for info. He was friendly and helpful. I've since built all my computers except my laptop.

One day I called him and his SO told me he was in the hospital for an appendectomy and he'd call me when he was back and feeling well. I didn't hear from him and a week or so later I called and was told he'd died. She told me something about life being precious and cherishing every moment because you never know.
