Last night, my fiance hit her engagement ring against the door and the diamond went flying.
Took us an hour to find it. Im just glad we did. Glad I got that extended warranty too. Will be ready next Tuesday-of course no charge. We now see that she has to be extra careful, dont want this to happen again

That sounds like a very poorly made ring. My wife has hit her ring on a number of things and the diamond hasnt even come loose a little. I would make sure that it is re-set properly.

My wife used to catch the baguets (sp?) on all kinds of stuff. They would always be lose but never came out. She has never lost the main stone and she has hit it on many things. Once she even caught it on some drywall and packed a bunch of drywall dust under it. The stone was never loose.

The jeweler should be able to fix that...sounds like a defect to me. My wife punched a wall, and the diamond (held on two sides) was unmoved.

sounds like you have a four pronged ring. that sucks.

Whats wrong with a four prong?

KK

Depending on the size of the stone, the 4-prong may not be enough to hold it in under stress. I wanted a 4-prong for my fiance's ring (just over 1 carat), but the jeweler strongly advised me to get a 6-prong setting. It ends up being a lot more secure that way.

If one of the 6 prongs bends/breaks, the stone will not fall out. If one of four prongs bends/breaks, there goes your stone.

You should've got a CZ, and put the real thing away.... CZ would be like a "backup" copy.
