Whats up with the way my webpages look in RedHat 7.0? Look at a screen shot HERE to see what I'm talking about. I looked at some of the "installing TrueType fonts documents, but do they apply to redhat 7? In my XF86Config file I have the line:
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType"

Help! Browsing on this install is painfull on my eyes :)

You need to install a TrueType font server like xfstt. I don't have a link to it but I installed it on my Red Hat 6.2 rig and it works well. Do a Google search and you'll find it and more info lickety-split.

But if you are using Netscape as your browser it's still gonna look pretty crappy..... Try changing the font under Netscape's preferences - I can make mine look halfway decent using the Type 1 Helvetica font that comes with the distro for proportional fonts and Type 1 Courier for fixed-width fonts. It takes some messing around.

actually you should have a truetype server installed already (6.2 did for me). go through that font deuglification process, then in netscape choose a true type font (they'll say monotype beside them) and force your font choice on websites. it makes a HUGE difference.

<< they'll say monotype beside them >>

funny, my TrueType fonts say "TrueType" next to them. Monotype means that each character takes up the same amount of space on a line. It's also the name of a type foundry (i.e., a company that designs fonts). Are you SURE you are using TrueType fonts? By default they are not available....

<< go through that font deuglification process >>

Can you explain that a little better? The only way I have ever been able to get TrueType fonts to work correctly is by installing xfstt..... I know there is a TT font server that comes with Red Hat, but I could never get that one to work.

i used xfs (which according to the howto will do truetype fonts). i loaded three fonts, all of which show up in netscape with (monotype) beside them, so that's what i'm using. maybe it's not right? i dunno, but it works fine for me. i might go back and load the other if i get bored, but for now this is working fine for me.
